Gugghhhhh....

t3h maps.

Though we've still only seen the tip of the Iceberg, the maps arent looking too sexy to me.  "Let's put a big sacred tower made of stone and make players fight on it" or "let's make another perfectly flat slab of rock and put it in the middle of the ocean!"

Will we see any diversion from the current maps or will we see things like mountains...and hills in the map, maybe some rivers.  IIRC, it worked somewhat well in SupCom, and I remember reading that Demigod runs on a modified Supcom Engine.

I really do hope that we see some good looking maps like the default one in DOTA. I agree that some of the arenas are looking pretty bland right now, but remember that the game's still fairly early in development so they have a lot of time to polish up the aesthetics.

I think you'll be happy with the maps as they get further along. They're just starting really.

My guess is the screen shots are based on the early build of the game. The maps are flat to see everything, and get a developer's perspective on how everything will interact.

I agree with the OP though and Sol_Invictus. Once the gameplay solidifies, the maps need more variety other than geometric flat shaps and should contribute to the experience.

Looking at DOTA, alot of the gameplay depends on jungle/gorilla warfare with cover, line of sight, ambushes, and retreating all dependent on the terrain.

Actually, in its current state, the game has a chess theme to it. Simple board with opposing sides, equivalent pawns and other pieces, equal goals (stronghold).

Chess seems like a good way to put it. Strategically moving your pieces to take out the opponent. I would hope that GPG and SD come up with something better than a map of black and white squares :D

I'd suspect there are still pulling out of the white box. Elevation differences on the actual playing field in addition to cover/terrain/doodads may come later.

Of course, it may be they want to preserve the chess arena feel where gods look on the bloody playing field created on top of the Tower of Babel.

Most of the battle grounds look like some elaborately constructed, perfected, architectural gem. I think roughing them up a bit would add variety. For instance, the Sun Dial battleground could be set in the middle of a jungle. It could be overgrown and have beautiful lush backgrounds.

Some of the other battlegrounds could start out looking like there already was a battle, or where time has erroded.

Its a little too pristine right now for me.... Not a bad thing for a few maps, but clean perfect beauty for every map....
