constant lag

I played one game which ran flawlessly. but the last 4 games have been so laggy, and it turns out that I'm the one who's lagging. I tried yesterday and it was doing it, and the same today. But then i play other games online and they arnt lagging at all, also i can ping a website using the command prompt every second to prove that it's not my connection. So im thining it must be ther servers or something. Im in the UK.

IronClad Online is completely out of the picture once the game has started.

Your "lagging" could be due to your internet connection, a hop in-between you and the other players (doing a tracert to the IP's of other people in your games will help determining that), or since the entire simulation is run on each person's machine and HOST doesn't "host" anything but rather syncs everyone together it could be your CPU lagging behind.

To reiterate.....

1. ICO has nothing to do with in-game lag

2. It could be a "hop" in-between you and the other gamers. Using the "tracert" command from the command-prompt will help with that. If you need to know the IP's of everyone in-game with you, go to the command-prompt and type "netstat -a" this will show you the IP's of everyone in-game with you.

3. Your CPU could be lagging behind....therefore causing everyone in-game with you to lag as well.

hi thanks for the post. i think that's cleared up some misunderstanding on my part. I think in that case, it could possibly be that Im in england and probably playing people from USA or for all i know, Austrailia, which could be causing lag over such vast distances. A shame, i can't think of a way round that unless i host a game called 'Europe only', but that doesnt stop others from joining.

I manage to host games from Australia without any issues (sometimes...)
Pings may be a little highter, but that is all.
The issue seems to be when people are either downloading stuff in the background and/or compressing DVDs etc...
I now ask people when I host to make sure they have this stuff turned off.
I have noticed it seems to be noobs alot lately - that might be due to the the fact they haven't learned about the lag issues and therefore haven't tackled it by turning down setting and/or disabling intensive activities.
Oh - and I am running an ADSL modem on an ADSL2 subscription - plan states 18000/900 so I should be getting 8000/900...

Could it be my NAT router? cos ive never had any lag problems like this in other games. In Company of heroes, sometimes i cant join a game cos of the NAT, but other than that it doesnt lag whilst in a game. But in this, it seems to lag every few seconds. Also, I am using Vista and have installed Vista Anti Lag, and im %90 sure my connection is fine, unless NAT can cause this kind of lag? thanks

Starmonger,

Since SINS is run ENTIRELY on each person's own machine and the host is only there to SYNC everyone's games together it is possible that your lag is due to someone else's CPU or internet connection.

Every MP game is at the mercy of the slowest CPU or internet connection in the mix.

Hi Monk, thanks for helping me with this btw. But heres the thing, this has happend every time ive played sins online- I look at the Network option in the menu, and see everyones ping, and they're usually fine but mine will spike every 10 secs or so lagging the game. Any idea what this could be? i know it would point to my connection obviousley, but im pretty sure its not. ive done that ping thing- i have vista anti lag on which works according to the ping cmd, and can see that if i ping google, I get a reply each second. Also I play other games like CoD4, and they arnt lagging. Most games I buy, generally I play online and havnt had any problems... im really confused this time. Could it be my NAT ? UpNp is on in my router options, i can join games, dunno about hosting.
