Explorer crashes on any occasion?

Hey there.

Recently I got myself Window Blinds (legally), and in the beginning it worked perfectly, but then it started making my explorer crash.

Oddly, it's not a "real" crash with the usual "the program doesn't respond", rather.... a refresh.

What happens:

Everything except the wallpaper disappears, and reappears after aprox. 1 second. Explorer-windows are now closed, programs run unaffected.

it happens when I ....

... open a folder's/data's properties.

... open a folder inside a folder in the start menu.

... try to move a folder inside the start menu.

... open the control panel (Here a error message DOES pop up, telling me, that a certain data called: "C:\Windows\system32\netsetup.cpl" cannot be loaded/read.

... sometimes, when I close/open a folder.

... or very rarely.... just randomly.

Any solutions?

Please, help me (:(

Not sure if this will help but, I had explorer problems with Nvidia's 175.16 video drivers and WindowBlinds.
I uninstalled them and went back to 169.21 and the problems were gone.

Turn on Indexing.

"C:\Windows\system32\netsetup.cpl" cannot be loaded/read.

Un-check IPmon32 via msconfig. Reboot.

Well, update.

I turned on my Indexing now, and found out... it did not help at all. Or wait, it did, I can rightclick my files at least... sometimes.

Aswell I found out, on my PC there is no IPMON32. It's simply not there. That may be because I use a german Windows, or because I don't have something installed, that I should have.... Or it's possible, that it's just not there.

A new thing now is, I get a second error, when I open the Control Panel, which says "Cannot load/read "C:\WINDOWS\System32\avsmcpa.cpl""

Once again mentioning, even those errors stop, as I unload WB... so it doesn't have anything to do with my system.

However, I'll try some more solutions.

If anyone has any other possibility, I'd greatly appreciate to hear it.

Thanks!

It's not Windowblinds.

Check for Windows system file corruption: Start/ Run/ type: sfc /scannow

If no errors, then my guess is you have an ugly running loose in your system.

Nope, the scan is negative... nothing corrupt in my files.

And as I said.... as I unload WB, it stops. I see a pretty certain connection between this and the errors.

Have you tried this? It would be worth a shot.It used to crash on me 4 or more times a day.Updates have taken care of that for me and most others in that linked post.

When did you install/version update Mcafee?
I reinstalled it now, using Impulse - everything unchanged.

My Mcafee is updated to the actual version.

I assume you're talking about re-installing WB, not Mcafee. I didn't ask what version of Mcafee, I asked when you installed it. That said, unless you just installed it when all this started happening, then it's irrelevant.

While you only have the 'problem' with WB loaded, the answer is elsewhere.

... open the control panel (Here a error message DOES pop up, telling me, that a certain data called: "C:\Windows\system32\netsetup.cpl" cannot be loaded/read.

That's an error related to Verizon (which you don't have) and/or Mcafee.

That is Mcafee.

One would guess from the above that Mcafee is doing it's job TOO well. Shut Mcafee completely down (kill the running processes if you have to) and install WB. On the re-boot, WB and Mcafee will be loaded....errors gone?
