Calculating ship build time?

What is wrong with me!

I have a planet with 2 factories and a planet with 5 factories but the smaller planet produces ships at twice the rate even though the larger planet has more mp's.  How is ship building speed calculated?

Each ship has a build cost, this is the amount of militairy points that needs to be spent on them to finish it.

So if you have, for instance, a ship that costs 152, and a planet that has 42 militairy production it'll take 152/42 -> round up = 4 turns to finish the ship.

Make sure that the ships are of the same cost, when comparing building speeds.

How the actual militairy productionpoints are calculated, can be found elsewhere on this forum...

Keep an eye out for social production though, planets where social production isn't used, will transfer these points to military production...

If one planet is your homeworld, the Civilization Capital produces much more than a normal colony center, so that might account for part of it. Also, you might have some asteroids adding to the production of one of the planets.

What do u mean "where social production isnt used". What I did was put my slider to produce full industry to build ships faster. I set the social to zero on the slider. The HOMEWORLD's higher production explains most of my issue. I did not know this fact.

What do you mean "where social production isn't used".

Say you had your sliders at 30% military, 30% social, and 40% research. If on one planet you were building on some square plus a ship but on another you were only building a ship, then the planet not building an improvement the used social is transferred to military production. On such settings clicking the focus buttons for military, social, or research would also greatly impact resource allocation. In your case since you had military set to 100%, these would not be factors.

Design Cheap Colony, Constructors, and Space Miners
Don't use the core ship designs! In the original DL and in DA, I use small hulls for my colony, constructors, and space miners, until I reach miniaturization 25%, at which point I use tiny hulls. In ToA I'm forced to use cargo hulls until I unlock small hulls. Don't place engines on colony ships unless you need to beat the AI to a valuable distant planet. Cheaper ships can be built faster which means they can be launched sooner which helps offset their lack of speed. Also you increase the number of ships you can build in a given amount of time, speeding up your expansion.
