Ememy ship showing wrong HP total.

I'll get right to it....  an enemy ship, large hulled, shown to have only like 6 HP left, it has good fire power but no defences. I attack it with a small ship with more than enough attack to take it out and a bunch of on-type defences.

I lose the battle. Confused I was looking over the after battle numbers and see that my ship actually did something like 20 damage to the enemy, more than it supposedly had to begin with.  I reload the game and check again... 6 HP to start but full HP after the battle.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Is there a reason that the HP shown by clicking on a ship would be different than what it actually is?  This may have happened to me before but then i just thought i had made a mistake. And no, there were no ships stacked.

the enemy ship might have survived the battle because...

*It killed your ship the first turn? If the combat only lasted for one round in which both ships received a critical (deadly) amount of damage, the strongest ship survives with one HP. This could explain why it survived combat, the full HP can be caused by a level-up of the victorious ship. A level up does sometimes replenish HP to full.

*Multiple ships on one tile, but you already said that that wasn't the case...

If neither of those apply, then I don't know either!

In my experience, I've never seen a ship gain full HP from gaining a "level". They get a small boost, but remain damaged. What likely happened is that they were upgrading the ship to a different type, which does restore full HP.

I've had it happen to some of my ships on occasion, I can definitely confirm that it is possible (just very rare). (edit: "it" in this sentence refers to full Hp restoring)

Upgrading does indeed restore HP, but it would also means that the turn before it happens, it'd have 1 hp out of 1...

In 300+ games I've never seen that.

True, but the 1 HP wouldnt matter if both ships had enough weapons to destroy each other on the first salvo. The stronger ship (more weapons in this case) lives, while the weaker dies, even though they both took enough damage to be destroyed. There is no "mutual kill" in GC2 combat.

I thought the attacker would be the survivor if both ships could destroy eachother on the first salvo. ?

With my defences it may have even taken more than one round. It wasn't so much that I lost, bad rolls happen, but that my opponent took more damage than it supposedly had to start with.

I get what you're saying though. Could be that the ship info wasn't updated or something.

Naw, it really is the stronger ship that lives through the fight. You can clean countless planets with a behemoth that has awesome weaponry and a single hp...

I am 100% confident that what I observed is what actually happened in my games. I am notorious amongst my ship captains for rarely retreating my ships to a planet to repair. (This is generally because I don't HAVE other ships to keep my defensive line.) It has happened so often to me in fact, that I thought it a natural part of the game, perhaps it's a glitch in my game... (I always update though)

Weird, I have no explanation for that, and I've never encountered it.

I was very surprised that you challenged me on that subject, that's how "normal" I thought it was... Apparently it's not as "normal" afterall. I'll check if it still happens to me, or if it's been fixed somewhere along the way. (Ship captains, prepare to die!)

What version are you playing? I recall there being a bug in DA that made the surviving (stronger) ship in case of mutual destruction end up at full HP rather than 1 HP.

Well, I haven't noticed this specifically, but for HP weirdness I have noticed that sometimes I'll click on a ship and it'll show a specific damage/defense/HP value. Then I'll click "Details" and the number listed on that screen will be completely different.

Fleets of ships are even worse, they're almost always completely wrong, I'm not sure if that's a bug or just how fleets are supposed to work.

Here's an example I'm looking at right now:
One of my ships:
Defender Mk I 4190
This is what I see when I click on it to highlight it on the main map:
Attack: 0 / 0 / 14
Defense: 29 / 0 / 0
HP: 25 / 23
There are no starbases or anything else externally affecting these numbers.

When I click (i) to get Ship Details, then Intelligence Report
On this detailed screen I see the following:
Attack: 0 / 0 / 13
Defense: 24 / 0 / 0
HP: 25 / 20

I have no idea if this is indicative of a bug that monkeys with the numbers beyond what makes sense, or maybe there's some invisible "feature" that doesn't work like logic dictates. Maybe what you read for HP on the enemy ship isn't what it actually has?

I think the first values are the ship + any civ-wide bonuses you have, and the second set of values is merely the ship design without those bonuses.
