Is ObjectDock Plus Dead?

Since ObjectDock Plus 1.9 was released over a year ago and there haven't been any releases since, I was wondering if development had ceased?  I have not seen any news on a new version or heard of a BETA either.  Please advise!

Word has it that the developer slipped on some goose or monkey poo and there will be a delay. ;p

I see that as well, but how do I install the BETA from Impulse?

Click on the Stardock emblem top left corner  and put a check mark in besides "Show pre-release versions.

If you can see it in Impulse is it showing as installed?

Looking at about ObjectDock in dock menu shows as v1.90a (Build 538u)

Hankers:
Yes, I can see pre-release versions.

RickJP:
OD is installed, my Objectdock>About shows 1.90 Plus Build 535u

Impulse shows "Available Beta: 1.91k[a].025", but there doesn't seem to be an option to install it!

OK - Issue solved. You have to have the product registered in Impulse to receive the update. Impulse didn't register it automatically because I used a different E-Mail address to purchase ObjectDock Plus than my other Stardock apps.

I thought 1.91k[a].025 was an Alpha? ... not that it's highly important other than in the context of Betas usually follow Alphas ... meaning maybe a Beta is right around the corner?  ;)

Well after I installed 1.91k[a].025 it shows up as being v1.90a (Build 538u) in the app itself.

My initial point still stands, however. It's been over a year since an official release, and this Alpha, Beta, or whatever you call it is minor at best. Even the changelog (History on Impulse) doesn't include any significant details, and doesn't even mention the current version that is available. It just seems a shame that such a useful and interesting program should receive so little attention. Maybe someone from Stardock will comment here and let us know what's going on!

That poor, poor bastard...you can't recover from that.

Hi all,

Stardock has been very busy making ObjectDock ready for Dell per this article:

https://www.wincustomize.com/articles.aspx?aid=312693

We have big plans for the technology and do not plan to abandon it any time soon.  Look for future updates, but at this time we are currently taking the dock to a new level that I cannot disclose at this time, but we believe you will like it a lot.

Thanks for your interest in ObjectDock!  Stay tuned...

I would just like to throw in my 2 cents into the well and say that I don't see much of a point in hyping things up if there are still outstanding problems. Of course we'd all like for OD to prosper in the future, but current issues should always be the priority. That is of course unless Stardock can juggle the 2 simultaneously and, by the looks of things lately, they don't have a good track record of that. Therefore, my suggestion: let's please sort the problems we have NOW and then start jumping through hoops into the future.

I'm confused by your post: are you just in the mood to complain or is there a specific issue that you'd like to see addressed? If so, perhaps you should email [email protected] and let the support staff know what problem(s) you are having with the software. Or post your specific issue here in this thread. Messiah and WebGizmos are a couple of the site's expert ObjectDock skinners and they may have some insights into your problem(s).

 Stardock juggles so many apps at a time that it's crazy.
It's been said before . . your issues with OD are relatively minor and if you use Impulse and the newest alpha build many would likely go away.  Let's not beat this dead horse again.

If he is saying it is being taken to a new level then what's to say the problems you are currently having will even be an issue in the new version?

I'm done with my complaining and I know it's not going anywhere. I do have specific issues and I have emailed Stardock and posted here and from both sides of the pond I was told to wait for the next stable release (no guarantee that it'll include the fixes though), so that's what I'm doing.

Issues, whether major or minor, are still issues. I say that they are major because they impact my every day using of OD. You say they're minor and we can pass the stick all day long. I would update to the newest alpha but there's no changelog and no one can say what's fixed and what's not so I won't update without knowing that doing so will improving the situation. I've no intention of beating any more horses. I love [most] animals.

If he is saying it is being taken to a new level then what's to say the problems you are currently having will even be an issue in the new version?

Let's hope they won't be an issue and let's hope this new version will be released soon so we'll see just how well Stardock can walk the walk.

i'm seriously confused by ivan's defiant stance regarding installing the latest build via impulse. so what if there isn't a changelog? what does that have to do with the build? ivan, archive your current build that you're obviously so unhappy with and install the latest build. if you don't like it for any reason, roll back to where you currently are and continue being as unhappy as you are now. this silly reason you use for not installing the latest build is ridiculous. changelog or not has zero impact on the app itself.

That's like buying a return flight ticket without knowing for sure where you're going to land. Because it's a return ticket you can always come back but there's no point in buying unless you land where you need/want to.

It's obvious that some fixes have been implemented in this latest build and obviously someone knows what they are. I just don't see the complication in making a little note and adding the info about those fixes to Impulse. This will allow me to make an educated choice whether to install or not.

ivan, you're a lost cause. installing the latest build and rolling back, if needed, are simple processes. personally, i think you're afraid of what you might find in the latest build. maybe you won't have a reason to complain as you presently do. is that what you're afraid of? if you don't want to do it, just say so and go on with life. your petty reasons for not wanting to do it are ridiculous, though.
