I wonder if democratas realize they help Republicans by saying stupid things like this.

Harkin, who has a history of embellishing his own military record, told Iowa reporters last week that McCain’s background as the son and grandson of Navy admirals creates a “dangerous” situation because he can only view the world through the prism of the military.

“He has a hard time thinking beyond that,” Harkin said, according to The Des Moines Register. “I think he’s trapped in that. Everything is looked at from his life experiences, from always having been in the military, and I think that can be pretty dangerous.”

Once again, democrats want to view the world through the eyes of an appeaser, and that the dangers of islamic terrorism are some myth that Republicans created.  Democrats are dangerous, not someones military background.

Harkin would have been even more dangerous had he succeeded in being elected as the view through one's rectum is even more limited.

Yeesh. What a maroon.

I saw this while I was gone. It just amazes me the depths of depravity some of the democrats have sunk to.

This seems to be taken a bit out of context. Actually, completely out of context. I'll agree that saying military services makes for an unfit president is unfair and stupid, but he never said that.

What he said was that McCain's service makes him unable to see anything except from a military point of view. This assertion is questionable at best, stupid at worst, but is a valid sentiment despite the reasoning.

I think he's getting at the idea that McCain would only see military power as an acceptable solution to international disputes, although I'd expect better of one who experienced war first-hand. Then again, he did sing "Bomb Iran" and promised a 100 year war.

A very myopic and narrowminded view for the speaker, not the object of his derision. Taking Harkin's idiocy (whether meant to be vindictive or not is immaterial) to its extreme, no one is qualified or should be president unless they are omniscient. We all view the world from our own perspective, and it biases our actions. That is why they have such large cabinets and numerous advisors.

And as cliched as it may be, I will state it anyway. The people that truly know and want peace are the ones that have fought to preserve it. Not those that have demonstrated between their Lattes for it.

And  you complain that Harkin was taken "out of context"?

I agree with you that Harkin made a stupid comment. Your error is in taking his words and saying that they represent all democrats. Doing that would be akin to saying that since Allen made his 'macaca' comment that all republicans are racist. It's one man's opinion and yes, it's dumb. In fact, Harkin is attacking members of his own party in saying that-

Jim Webb was a Marine platoon commander in Vietnam, John Murtha, Al Gore and John Kerry all served in Vietnam, Jimmy Carter was a submarine commander, JFK fought in WW2.... so saying that democrats are a bunch of crazy peaceniks with no understanding of the military is simply blatantly false. In fact, Jim Webb is one of the very few senators that actually had a son who served in Iraq.... an oddity since the children of most senators tend to be "priviledged" sons.

Yea, I like the idea of having to work your butt off to go up in ranks while in the armed forces of the US yet it only takes to become President to become the commander-in-chief for the entire US military? Does Obama have any military background? I can't imagine someone with no military background commanding our armed forces. That would be like putting a baker to configure a 36 computer network (considering he knows nothing about computers).

Strange, this sounds to me like stereotyping. So a person with military background is somehow not capable of becoming a President because he may see everything thru military eyes? Wouldnt that be the same as saying a person from the Democratic party would see things thru Democratic eyes? Are you saying a military person only knows how to wage war and not tend to the needs of the citizens? I think McCain is being scrutinized unfairly by a group of people that cry foul when something about Obama is said.

I never said it was true. By the way, yes it would be the same as saying the same thing as saying a Democrat could only see things throught democratic eyes. It's a reasonable concern, depending on the situation.

Regardless, Harkin is an idiot.

You do have a point though, because our draft-dodger presidents have proven themselves incompetent.

Clinton made a botch of Somalia and the Balkans fiasco, and we're living with the trillions in debt and hundreds of thousands of dead from Bush Jr's wars.

Just goes to show maybe it's not the political party the problem but the idiots we Americans vote for that affiliate themselves with a party.

Well yea. While I may not agree with the Democratic concept of politics, I believe the idea is truly meant to help the American people. The same goes for the Republican party and every other spin off of these political parties (Conservatives, Liberals, etc.). It's the idiots who decide to represent the parties and know all the tricks, all the backdoors, all the ways around, that mess up the parties. But of course that's just my opinion.
