I would have thought putting the link to where you found the fix download would have made sense.

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_32

This is a random one to the first result on google, have fun with that.

DANMAN3712

I had the exact same problem. I went to google and did a search for d3dx_32.dll and downloaded it, then placed in in the SINS game directory and eureka works great.

So I was having the same problem as DANMAN where the galaxy forge worked fine, but the DEV.exe, and particle forge did not. I did the same thing as him,

[quote]Ok,I googled the "d3dx9_32.dll, found the site, and downloaded the file. I put it into the main SINS folder where the main exe file is, along with the DEV exe.]

it worked for DEV.exe, but particle still does not work, and in addition, galaxy forge stopped working. Any suggestions?

Ok, call me thick, but the instalation instructions appear to be a bit thin.

I've downloaded the zip. What do I do with it ? Do I just unzip it into the sins directory ? Or do I need to unpack it and move things somewhere manually.

Since I havent done any assembly editing since Privateer, I seriously hope this is the tool I need for the basic tweaks I want to make.
Ok, I got the tools to load, but its just the same game running.

Can we please have some basic instalation and running instructions please ?

eg.

What you do with the zip.
What you run to get the Developer running.
What steps you take to create a new mod, and then how you go about using the developer to change things.

It doesnt have to be extensive, but at least enough to show people how to to start off using the tool. (Basic common sense to include this imo).

Modding for someone who isnt up on it but still wants to tweak the game. If the tool is any good, you dont need to say much, but so far I cant even find the tool itself, so there is obviously something basic missing I cannot see.

Should take someone all of 2 minutes to write out the basics. Surely ?

Sorry, being sarcastic, but somewhat frustrated by the lack of what should be a basic inclusion with any download of this type.

1. unzip it to any directory. Where ever you want to run the mod tools from

2. To get the developer .exe working, copy it from the directory you installed the forge tools in, into your main Sins installation folder (It should have your normal .exe file in it), then just double click the developer .exe icon to run in developer mode. Helps to create a shortcut to it and place it on your desktop.

3. See the documentation in the directory you unzipped the forge tools to. It should explain how to set up a mod folder, and some of the basics.

And remember the forge tools are still considered a beta, so alot of documentation that might otherwise be included is not.

Hope that helps.

Any idea when we are going to see the v1.1 beta tools?

Thanks for that. Hopefully someone can take that a step further.

Figures they are beta. I missed that, or ignored it, cant recall :)

The only part of the pack I can see any use for is the original code. Except my first attempt at changing a few of those, caused an instant crash.

Devs: I enlarged my view window in the Particle Forge by double clicking it, but it would not return to regular size by doing so again. I managed to get is smaller by dragging the side of the window but the top of it is overlapped by the file options bar. There are no window resize commands or options, so I am stuck with part of my view window off the viewable area. To make things even worse I must have moved the options box up while playing around with the view box. Now I cannot access part of that window.

I tried reinstalling and when that did not work I looked at all the files in both my install directory and my users/fouracesII/appdata/Ironclad directory for any settings file for PF and I cannot locate it. I went wider and deleted any any file from these two directories, with a modification date/time from the last 24 hours when these changes occurred, and still nothing.

After you uninstall the game and everything, try running a registry cleaning. If the values are in the registry, then the cleaner should detect that they are not attached to anything anymore and delete them.

Well I just spent a half hour crawling through all the registry junk that SoaSE leaves behind when it is uninstalled with their uninstaller. I swear that they only deleted the files, and did not clean up anything from the registry (~60 entries for the core program)! Since the Particle Forge is not an installed component it should not be modifying the registry, but just for the heck of it I deleted anything that had to do with the game. The windows are still messed up. Since both CCleaner and AMUST failed miserably, I have manually scrubbed my registry clean of all sins, empire, solar, and particle references. I think they are using a third directory buried somewhere that is not properly named ("sins") so that searching fails.

At least I discovered that AMUST is better than CCleaner, but it is still not nearly as effective as they advertise.

Thanks for trying apricotslice!

Ok, look for the ironclad references and stardock references.

I've found in the past that programs often get entries stored under every name possible to do with making it.

For example, (not a good one), nortons antivirus is under "nortons", but so much cr*p is also loaded under "symantec" that deleting with it all is a major undertaking.

Also, check that all the files under documents and settings are deleted.

I remembered that running in 648x480 should do the trick, and it worked. It forces all icons and windows to resize/rearrange. I still want to know what the heck is going on with this thing though.

That was something I had not thought of. I just ran a check for both of them and came back with no hits. All the Ironclad references must have been deleted last night when I took out all the other keywords.

Well there you go. Doc's and Setting is the Third directory that they are using.
It has taken over 30 minutes to Take Ownership of the files there (Vista) with an automated script (and is still running)! Since it is a hidden folder that Vista says I do not have access permission for, even though UAC is off and I am an admin, it does not get accessed by a windows search. Yet another thing you have to hack in Vista, and another thing that was obviously not tested by IC. I deleted the settings and it rest to program defaults (overlapping windows).

Thanks apricotslice!

I wish they hadnt put anything under documents and settings. Editing mods has become a seriously annoying job because you have to manually hunt down all the directory structure first just to find them. Likewise saving your saves.

It was bad enough Egosoft putting X3's under My Documents, but this is totally rediculous ! Putting stuff down 10 flights of dungeon is just madness imo. I know microsoft like this stuff, but most of their "good ideas" come from sheer insanity ! And just to add insult to injury, the documentation in the mods pack is wrong about where all the mod stuff is stored ! They got 2 directories around the wrong way. I go to long lengths to avoid having anything under program files or documents and settings, just because of the sheer difficulty of finding anything again.

I like all game stuff under the game directory its installed into so you can find everything in ONE place. I also want it where I PUT IT. I install onto the D: drive for a reason, and finding so much of the game in the C: drive does not make me happy at all.

Anyway, rant over :) I'm glad you finally found it !

Something is wrong with the *.galaxy maps that I make with the forge. I make them, I save them to the empire\galaxy\*.galaxy path, but ONLY the forge can see that they are there, let alone open them. The game can not see the saved files in the file, and my computers win explorer can not see that the files are there. I can use the win search for the maps name, and it says its there, but if I click on the map file from the search tool, it just says file can not be found, verifying file \ path exists, then shuts down. What's up?

What is this convert data tool anyways, I downloaded all the new 1.05 tools, and its in there, but when I click on the .exe for it, it just flashes a dos window for about 1/2 a sec and the window closes. What the heck is it for and how do I use it? All I can seem to find out about it is it converts bin to txt and back and forth, but why? and how? is this why I can't see my maps?

I keep seeing the question about something called .NET in forums and on the download page. What is .NET and how do I know if I have it or need it, and why are there no links anywhere to down load it or get information about it?

Inside the v1.05 tool kit there are a bunch of adobe help files for modding with screen shots of some software program for modding that does not seem to be included with the tools down load. What is this program, and where do I get it?

I do blame microsoft. :) But game developers should be asking the player where they want things put, not depositing it where the "god of the computer" tells them to. They give you a choice of where to install the game, they should also give you a choice about where they put the support files. Hardly a budget busting thing to do.

The pdf I was reading, said application data, local settings, when in fact its the other way around.

I was wondering why I can't open any of the existing .galaxy files using Galaxy Forge. I just get a blank screen when I try.

Also, on a completely seperate topic, over the years I seem to have lost my nickname, with my actual name appearing. I don't seem to be able to change this using my account settings, I'd appreciate it if a mod or someone could get back to me on that.

Where is the fat book of error codes?

WTF do these mean please:
c:\gs\gamma\03\CodeSource\Engine\DataStructures\FixedArray.h(117): assert! [i >= 0]

c:\gs\gamma\03\CodeSource\Engine\DataStructures\FixedVector.h(155): assert! [m_CurrentSize < MAX_SIZE]

I havnt been able to get the developer to open properly. whenever i try, it just open the game in windowed mode. Any help as to why and how to fix would be greatly appreciated!

If it's in the install directory, it's supposed to open the game. There are extra commands available though.
