I just bombed my own planet.

So, I just annihilated my own planet.

I was playing a Free-For-All on the random-large-multi system map as TEC. I was launching an invasion of the third system, which was tiny and largely uninhabited. A Vasari opponent that had been giving me trouble had set up colonies in the system, so I ordered my battery of Novalith Cannons to fire on his planets in the system.

Mind you, these cannons are two star systems away.

When the warheads didn't impact and I couldn't find them on the map, I figured that the "Fires on a planet in this star system" description was real and sent in the fleet to finish them off instead.

Well, lo and behold, about an hour later after I'd swept the enemy colonies out of the system and had set up in their place, I spot the Novalith warheads entering the system. With a few choice utterances on my part, I watch as no less than five warheads proceeded to wipe out the entire colonies on three planets.

Let this be a lesson. Don't fire your superweapons across stars.

Been there bombed many of my own planets by accident. I got over it the first time after a question mark over my head for about 5 seconds then just laughed in the crazy way. I guesss that'sss why I play gamessss and don't lead countriesss in government buildingsss. :P ;P
Had them on auto cast which really made a mess of things.

This is why I like shield generators so much. You have no idea how many times this has happened to me. I can honestly say that, at one point, I heard "A new colony has been f- We've lost contact with one of our planets..." just after taking an asteroid.

I don't even want to know what that sounded like for my allies/enemies in that game.

"A po-A power-A power sur-A-A-A-A-A-A power surge of great magnitude has-A pow-A p-A powe-A power su-A-A-A-A power surge of-(Continues)"

At least you didn't accidentally scuttle one of your planets thinking you had selected one of your structures. X-(

I've similarly done that...minus the friendly fire. It is hard to see those bombs on the galactic map.

So THAT'S why TEC have shield generators. I always found it odd that they could defend against their own superweapon, usually enemies aren't the same race. Now I know.

Aren't we afraid of Gov'Agro? Why wouldn't we still fear our government in the future?

been there done, and burned the t-shirt! i had a whole system colonised, and pretty much every planet had a novlith cannon in orbit, i set ALL of them to autofire (and there are like, 16+ of these things) and left them to it. about 20 minutes later i went to stomp on a player in another system (i wanted all 6 of his delicious artefacts) so got there, cleared him out, colonized the system, and an hour later the warheads swarmed in. it took nearly 3 hours for them all to pass through, and by theat time i was bored.

My biggest regret is not being able to shot any planet you so desire. i get annoyed when you play locked teams, and your allies get more relics than you do.
