Library and Firefox 3.0

http://ietab.mozdev.org/
Apologies if this is the wrong spot for this - but I had just been assuming the library was down until I looked through the galactopedia thread and realized people were actively using it.

In Firefox 3.0 Beta it just dies - no error, just a blank page. Which is odd, because I'm fine everywhere else. I *am* using some security extensions protecting firefox, but none of them are showing any signs of being the cause. Don't have FF2 loaded anywhere at the moment - would be curious if the issue is only V3 or not.

That said - Workaround: anyone on FF3 under Windows can load the extension http://ietab.mozdev.org/ and set http://library.galciv2.com/* into it, and it will embed the IE engine under Firefox for the library (Or anything else you like) - I presume anyone running under Ubuntu\Linux is just SOL, but it's mostly downloads anyway, so it's nice if it's an easy fix, but it's not like I'm going to be downloading it to Ubuntu anyway.

Thanks - hope this helps anyone else that just didn't realize it was working.

I'd say it's a V3 Beta issue. I'm running FF 2.0.0.14 w/ Adblock Plus 0.7.5.4 and DOM Inspector 1.8.1.14 and I have no issues in the Library.

Ok, I installed FF 3 Beta5 and still had no issues with the Library...again with Adblock Plus 0.7.5.4 installed.

I'm running V2 - still have hassles. There is a known Forum Bug they are trying to track down.

One thing I have noticed which is interesting. When I use Firefox there is a continual stream of messages in the bottom left bar refering to brightcove.com (waiting for services, waiting for goku.brighcove.com etc etc), when that happens its slow to navigate away from a page, even crashes. When I use IE no messages like that are echo'd to the screeen, and I dont get nearly as much delay navigating pages.

The latter could be the difference on how IE is handling brightcove Calls compared to Firefox in terms of echoing it to screen.

It could also indicate the cause of this hassle, maybe its the recent use of brightcove? I have noticed with Firefox its still downloading / transfering data from brightcove and all I am doing is (say) going from Home Page to the opening Forum summary page, where there are no internet tv needs.

Wild guess, but maybe its the whole brightcove thing and how its handled that causes this? If brightcove use started around the time we got this hassle - I would certainly be perking up my ears on what brighcove are doing. Just a thought, not a "hate brightcove" campaign

After doing some more digging on the topic of Adobe Flash, I ran into some comments about flash 9 causing some browser crashes. I'm only running version 8 on this machine. Jonnan001, which version are you running?

I am running 9 here and probably at home as well, though obviously on both Firefox *and* IE. Haven't had any issues with it on other websites, but if it's a known problem, then this just happens to be the place where I ran into it.

This really is getting mega frustrating now, and I would not mind betting its hitting Site viewing figures. This inexplicable and sudden delay that keeps being inserted into Site Page changes when going from one page to another really is getting crazy. I've lost count of the number of times I either wait for ever and a day for a page change, or I literally go out the site and come back in as its far quicker getting the page you want that way.

Its not consistent in that it does not always happen - enough though to tear your hair out. When is does I continually get stuck at the "brightcove" point (shown in the link below) no matter what type of page is being shown. Its always the one shown or "brightcove services" where it comes to a skidding halt.
