Replacing Player Pictures with your favorite sci-fi characters

I've been replacing all the Sins character pictures with all my favorite sci-fi characters, Locutus, the Borg Queen, Lorien, Delenn, etc...   It adds an element to the game to be contacted by the Borg Collective and have Locutus staring you down, and, er, um... asking for credits.

Also, Since there are four places to change each picture, I can have different ones for each panel, one of Locutus hailing me, one of him in battle, and a Bio pic for the diplomacy screens.

I think I'll search google for pictures of Ewoks :)

...What do you mean Ewoks don't have spaceships, I remember that giant hollowed out tree with that high-tech command center with... oh wait, those were Furlings :)

It is possible but I'm just using google images of Picard (and Thor from Stargate), If you were asking if it's possible, yes, If you were asking me to draw people, I try not to draw people

no, what i'm asking is: when you create a new race can you have portraits for them as well?

Hmmmmmm......

Go ahead and continue to make all your fourth race pictures and put them into the fourth row of your player-picture files...

There are player specific files in the "Window" folder, player-specific lines in the GalaxyScenario-definitions file, and of course the "player" files in game-info. I'm guessing you have all these files already copied and renamed to match your fourth race, and one.

One of those sets of files contains the graphics pointers, so just get out a calculator and find the difference between the advent and vasari coordinates, and then add that amount to the vasari coordinates to move the pointer to your fourth race position. Do this for the pointers for all four picture files. This part should work just fine as part of the solution to creating the "Completely Independent Fourth Race"

Of course, this is only part of the solution, and it may not work without some tiny change that we haven't found yet... ...but any step in the right direction that doesn't cause a minidump is good...

do you remember Abisha's Altaria mod? It was a spin off with the advent and vasari mixed, it was pretty beast. BUT what really caught my eye was that he had a fourth portrait for his altaria race. I'll get going on how to do that as well

I missed that mod (Alteria), (unless it's part of 7 Deadly), I'll google it...

If they already figured it out already, you could do a windows search of Alterian files and see what changes were made, files were created, to get it to work :)

it's an older mod for 1.03 sins, not many people knew about it in the first place. And no it isn't part of 7DS

Oh, Canada ;) I tried doing a 4th race modification, for the pictures, and it worked just fine, it recognized the 4th row of pictures on a 4th race marker I copied from the TEC files. Unfortunately, I used a copy of the Reference Files folder as my base, and the game wouldn't recognize anything but the small map-set (I thought Reference Files was supposed to be the base for new mods)

Anyway, it's really easy to do (should have brought those files too) I called the new race "Fourth", and made copies of several of the key filesets from the TEC base, and modified the files as I suggested. It started up and I braced myself for a minidump, (thought it would give me at least some type of glitch or something)...

It recognized all my string files for it too, and I selected it on the player startup, (My picture was of a Borg, since I was keeping all my spare Borg pics in that 4th row for storage)...

I must bring it...

If it doesn't work, I can bring what I did... (It's simple, but you have to access the player file file in Window that doesn't want to be accessed, it looks like a paint file, but it has coordinates)

I just put it up in a new post (so that everyone who wants can find it :)
all the code fragments can be found there, and any future additions should be easily conveyed in the thread)...
