Have these forums slowed down or is it just me?

Like the title says it sure seems that the page load times of these forums have slowed down drastically.

I don't recall exactly when I noticed this but I'm guessing it's been that way since the site was updated with the Karma/Report options.

The page render times printed at the bottom of the screen are all very reasonable. The problem is they are not at all representative of how long I seem to have to wait. Lately it's been so annoyingly long that I just give up waiting and go somewhere else.

Like I said in the title this could be just me. Anyone else noticing this?

Yea, I have noticed it as well. Sometimes I just close the entire browser and reload the page and it seems to work better. I'm sure thats a "ghetto-fix" for some of the more technical geniuses of these forums, but its about the best solution I have found when I need to post something extremely important...like how Star Wars is not Sci-Fi but rather historical.

Agreed. The Stardock server seems to be taking longer to respond than it used to. Once it responds, the pages load quickly enough.

Also, the time it takes for a reply to make it to the "recent posts" has crept back up to the pre-update times. The most annoying thing about this is the "edit" button won't show up until that happens.

The forums have always hung up on me, but it does seem to happen more often lately.

I think it's pretty much guaranteed to happen every session on the site now, where as it was probably a 50-50 shot before.

I either click on the navigation button like crazy or just go to another site for a while.

It's been erratic for at least the past month, since I started visiting these forums regularly. Sometimes it's nice and fast, but there are times when it takes so long that I give up and go somewhere else.

I've started making it a habit of clicking on a thread and then going to another tab/site, while it loads. Times vary and can be up to 2 minutes to load for me. It was pretty quick after the initial switchover but seems to get a little slower with each update since.

Yup same here DA...Open GC2.com...open a few threads and come back to it later....I also find it even slower when posting, the thread just seems to hang for about 3 or 4 minutes.

No one ever said these forum upgrades were a good thing....Well no one i paid any attention to anyway...:P

Page load times have occasionally been frustratingly long for me as long as I've been reading around here, but since the latest upgrade effort I'm starting to emulate DethAdder's strategy.

That's probably a good thing in terms of my earning money and/or getting more chores done, but maybe it isn't an intended result of the recent Stardock revamp of their multi-forum system.

yeah, it's getting really annoying!

It has been pretty slow. What I usually do is have at least two tabs open, loading different trheads at the same time. Or like Piznit, if it doesnt seem to be working, I have to close the entire browser and start over. This happens almost every time I go to the forums lately. Very aggravating...

That's the nature of karma, though, ennit? If the good is piling up, you can bet the bad is piling up somewhere else.

The periodic timeouts are something that's been under ongoing investigation for a while now. Whatever is causing them, when it's not happening things are usually pretty quick.

Yes, it's fine performance-wise when the timeouts aren't happening. But when they are, it's amazing how long it takes before the system wakes up. Like others, when that happens, I just go to some other website in a new tab, until the Stardock site wakes up.

I can also confirm the inconsistent experience thing. Sometimes I can blaze around reading and posting anything I care to, but just now I posted a reply in another thread that took several minutes to process and ended up telling me something about "page doesn't exist." When I backed up and refreshed, I found my reply posted normally. If I weren't a PC pro who's been suffering Vista since last August, I'd be disoriented.

I've always had time outs since 2006.

Again, once the page starts to load, its pretty quick, but in most instances I'm waiting 20sec- 1min+ for the page to start loading oafter clisking on a link. Not a huge deal, I do a lot of multi-tasking - so I'm not too irked by it or anything.

I always just figured the forums were under heavy use compared to teh server size/ability

More to see my medals than anything I decided to try FF3 RC1 and this site is flying now. Seems the site was optimized for FF and runs like junk on anything else. I'm still not on the FF bandwagon, but this FF3 has things looking up. May just be because my favorite site(this one) works so well with it though ;) .

I just deleted cookies, and now things seem to be faster.

Of course, it's past midnight so there may be a lighter load on the server.
I'll see how it works later in the day.

I do love supernatural attempts at "debugging." My latest makes-no-sense tactic that mostly works is to hit the Stop button and try whatever link I was following again. That mostly seems to get a brisk response, even during business hours in the eastern US.

May I humbly suggest that your web server is hitting a request limit. In the past, behavior with the exact appearance of the issues here were caused by the hosting software hitting a software limit on the number of concurrent requests. Naturally you have probably already checked that, but what does it hurt to mention it? One might also be inclined to note that the server always eventually responds (at least over here), so it is getting the request and is queuing them.

I'm pretty new here..and I thought the forums were slow. However! I noticed that at any given time there are anywhere from 500 to over 1000 people on this forum! I would surmise that is the reason for slowness.
