Bumper Stickers

Bumper Stickers

I can't say what happens everywhere but I will share what I have observed here in suburban Detroit.

I do a lot of driving around due to the fact that I have two young boys.  I see a lot of bumper stickers during my local taxiing.

My observations are as follows:
I see Kerry/Edwards signs mostly on tiny beatup foreign cars.  I see Bush/Cheney signs on American vehicles (mostly SUVs and trucks) and the only hybrid I have seen in this area has a W in '04 magnet on it.

I have never seen a Kerry/Edwards sign of any kind at the christian preschool my youngest attends.  I see no bumper stickers of any kind in my neighborhood, other than the occasional "My child is an honor student" sign.

I abhor bumper stickers. But it is interesting social commentary on the kinds of cars that different kinds of supporters drive.

An interesting thought I forgot to add - we have to vote. No vote = a big fat fine. Sure, you can write nothing on the ballot, but you have to get your name marked off. Maybe this has something to do with our apparent lack of public support?

I see more Bush stuff everywhere (houses of all sorts) and Kerry signs next to local Government offices (????), probably because the town mayor is a Democrat. Eh, oh well. C'est la vie.

Have not really paid attention to who has what bumper stickers since I don't see a lot of them, few cars have Political bumper stickers here.
Though Amish don't vote so don't expect to see any bumper stickers on their buggies.

I would prefer a magnet or you can tape the bumper sticker to the inside of the back window near the bottom so that way you don't gummy up your back bumper.

Most of bumper stickers I like are fringe (i.e. Chaote Stickers, Occult Stickers, Sexual Innuendo, Telling People Off, etc.), though I still have a listen plate in my room that reads 'Hot Damn Here I Am!!' with flames around the Hot Damn.

Oh yeah I forgot I did send my information through the electronic to get a FREE bumper sticker from Badnarik's campaign office, most likely I will be putting that in the back window though it will be a lonely bumper sticker.

I do have a yellow ribbon magnet on my car but than again I have always tried to have a yellow ribbon on my car. First it was a real ribbon on the car antenna and now this magnet. Though I have always had a yellow ribbon on my car for quite a long time now even further back than Sept. 2001. Though the magnet is a new addition because the ribbon does fall apart.

I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Is it really that bad there?

Not bad - just different. We don't have the fanfare nor the (what appears to us to be) public spectacle associated with our elections. You vote, someone wins, and you get on with it. Yes people support a party but it's not really something you talk about, let alone advertise.

Speaking of the Jesus fish... how many "Darwin Fish" do people generally see on the road?

Bumper stickers like these are what I like, which the images above come from Azuregreen Link.

What can I say sometimes I like being sarcastic and sometimes I like being a smart-ass, but never do I like being a apathetic dumb-ass.

Better to be a smart-ass or a wise-ass than a dumb-ass.

I really enjoyed numbers 2 & 3! You know what they say, Grim

I personally think that bumper stickers are tacky, much like the fake wood panneling some people insist on putting on their cars, or the fake wheel rims or the huge ugly spoiler fins. Intreresting to see us get back to the yellow things again too.

Now, where I live in metro detroit (Bloomfield Hills for JillUser), I see mostly Bush '04 signs and bumper stickers (I think that JillUser will be able to assume this based on where I live). I think that it has nothing to do with the type of car though, becase on mercedes and BMW's I tend to see Bush, on Toyotas and Lexuses Kerry and on americans and hondas a good even mix. I personally have counted oh about 10 GWB yard signs and say 7 Kerry Signs. I have one kerry sign, but it keeps getting stolen.

I prefer the "truth" fish swallowing up the Darwin, myself.

Yeah, baby!

Maybe the stickers have some effect on one's driving skills?)

I don't know if the stickers affect people's driving skills, but.....here in the midwest if you've got a driver in front of you that's wearing a hat, beware!!! Drivers' that wear hats are to be avoided at all times! They signal left and turn right, don't signal, or stop right on the ramp to wait for traffic to let up rather than merge......maybe they're on their way to get a bumper sticker???

I just got back from lunch, and I saw a humorous bumper sticker that I think we can all relate too...

This might be a blonde question but what does the Darwin Fish look like?

I travel quite a bit on business and that's what I ee too.

Little trashed looking foreign cars will have various left-wing slogans with a Kerry/Edwards sticker on it.

And big old obnoxious SUVs will have Bush/Cheney on it.

No doubt the guy driving the little Honda or Toyoto is complaining about "outsourcing" even as their own consumer choices help encourage it.

It does match up with demographics too in some ways.

For instance, married people tend to be Republicans. Single people tend to be Democrats.  This is particularly true if they have children (single parents overwhelmingly Demcorats, married parents overwhelmingly Republican).

Another interesting stat which I wish I could find the source of so take it for what it's worth - volunteers at soup kitchens tend to be overhwelmingly Republican.

The one about "No Matter Where You go, There You Are" is one of my favorites.

When I was in college I had one that read "You're Ugly and Your Mother Dresses You Funny". It seemed amusing at the time.

I drive all over the country and I tend to see a lot of different ones. I never really thought about keeping track of the really good ones. Perhaps I should.

I saw one today that read "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy".

There is a new country song that says that.  The girls next door sing it but thankfully they don't know what it means (they are 6 and 9).

I had 'you laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same' on my Jeep before I totalled it.  Now we have a 'Defensor Fortis' crest and a Security Forces shield...Air Force cop stuff:

We get a lot less hassle at the gate and elsewhere thanks to those.....

I can certainly understand having those on your car dharma.

A couple of other stickers I saw today:

W is for Women

The F in John F Kerry is for Fonda

At Weight Watchers parking lot I saw:

I may be fat but you're ugly and I can lose weight
