Suggestion for changing Metaverse

I haven't posted in a long time.

I am still playing but haven't been posting to the Metaverse or posting.

I have a very simple suggestion that would make a huge improvement to the Metaverse.

It is very simple.

Don't allow the player to choose victory conditions.


This simple change would prevent the farming of points, and it would level the playing field between Gigantic and Tiny games.

I find the games much more interesting when all of the victory conditions are turned on.

All of the high point players are only doing Military Conqest because this is what allows for the maximum scores.

It's terribly easy to avoid the other victory conditions.. Influence victory is impossible if you are at war with another empire, so all you've got to do is whittle the last remaining opponent down to one planet and then stay at war. You can score grind to your hearts content. And I don't see how this would level the playing field between Gigantic and Tiny games?

There are several ways to level the playing field. An alternative to your idea would be to disable all victory conditions other than Military Conquest. Forcing everyone to play that way would make sure that everyone is playing the game that's more interesting to me. (I find the military battles more interesting than the touchy-feely type victories).

Everyone playing other types of settings are only doing that because they can't win a military game. Well, it's either that or some other reason. Why consider how others want to play though?

Since we're talking about how to make the game more interesting to a particular person or group, maybe we could also force everyone to play on the Suicidal setting. You see, I no longer play on the lower settings, so why should we have them?

There are probably more ways I could come up with to "improve" the game. I'll give it more thought.

Livonya, I dont think your idea would be a good solution. Any way that the Metaverse scores are calculated would discriminate against a certain portion of the players. The trick is to divine a way that would discriminate against the least percentage of those who play the Metaverse. One thing I would like to see is a little more scoring parity between the different victory conditions. I do get tired of doing conquest all the time, because it scores the most, but I want to keep scoring high for my Kzinti Empire. The score differential is defintely too large for the different victory types.

I think it might work better to just divide up the scores by category. Sorta like the AltMeta. You could still have a top ranking category that is like what we have now. That would certainly make it easer to be number one with all the new number one spots. If you win by culture, you'd just go into the culture category (and the top ranking too).

Just a thought.
