[MOD] WWII-style unnamed mod

I had sort of a weird idea for a mod, and thought I'd get your opinions on it.  I'm basically just taking American and Japanese ships from WWII and making them look like futuristic space vessels.  The idea is to make it look like the designers from the 1940's are designing ships for Darth Vader.  All I have made so far is this carrier (modeled after an American CV-6 carrier), and a fighter (not pictured here) that sort of looks like a navy Hellcat-meets-Wing Commander.  The point is, I've made this flying aircraft carrier, and now that I've almost pulled all my hair completetly out just trying to get the thing in the game, now that it's there, I'm wondering if it doesn't look a bit silly.  Just thought I'd get the community's opinion on it before I start putting huge Iowa class battleships in there.  These things take a heck of a long time to model and texture, and I don't want to bother if it looks rediculous.  Maybe it looks dumb to me because I've been staring at this model in MAX and XSI for 3 full days screaming and cursing at it for not converting properly.  After standing on my head and holding my tounge just the right way, though, it finally made it in the game.  Now if I can just figure out how to post the screenshots....

If you post the mesh and image files we could look at it better and see what its like in game?

I looks ok in the pics but maybe a little under detailed?

no offense I cant even get a texture to export correctly myself so my hats off to you!

Only if we could make REAL WWII ships with a surface of blue ocean underneath them, with islands instead of planets (landscape design, like the pirate base), but then the ships would be stacked 5 high above and below, and that would only work with subs :)

can't wait to play the Yamato-esque ships :) :D

Please continue with the mod, one suggestion though would be to maybe stay away from the actual flat tops and focus more on battleships, cruisers and destroyers. Maybe use the hybrid Ise class battleships from Japan that combined battleship with carrier. Or maybe a ship with a internal launch bay with gun mounts on the exterior. But good work, will give this mod a try on release. Oh, not sure if it's possible but maybe different kinds of fighters too?

As much as I get tired of seeing world war 2 style games in the market... This mod looks damn cool. It doesn't look silly at all.

Can't wait!

Instead of just using ships and planes, I wonder if tanks could be used somehow? A flying sherman tank cobalt frigate, hmm yes...

Dude if i wasn't doing the Halo mod, you totally stole my idea! I wish you the best of luck and I can't wait to play it! Keep it all ships though. A flying tank just looks weird...

Looks great.

I can't wait to see more.

I suppose that you could just model the battleship with all the turrets by splitting it at the waterline and then do a mirror image. With on both the top and the bottom. That would look interesting.... I guess that I'd like to see it before saying that it would look cool. :)

One reason I started modeling with the flat tops is because it seemed to be the easiest thing to model. I didn't want to start with a battleship because they are more complicated, and I wasn't even sure I could export it correctly. It's not super detailed, but that's because there really isn't much to it. I wanted to make it look like an old carrier, but the ships don't launch from the top of the carrier, they take off from that hangar bay right on the front of the ship. Even though it looks sort of like a WWII carrier, the scale is obviously MUCH bigger. I'm working on a battleship now, but it'll be a while before it's done because I'm going on vacation next week. I've also posted some pics of the Hellcat fighter that goes with the carrier.

Hey great works !!!

It reminds me of the really cool design of human ships in conquest frontier wars they were sort of WWII like.

It would be cool to have a version of your mod, to replace original models, without changing the size.

Very nic I look forward to the battleship, cruisers etc...

Some excellent work there. It does have a nice Future/Retro look going on. If anyone played Star fleet Battles, the table top version, There was a race called the Frax the Klingons used as a "training race". Basically there we're simulated. All their ship models we're WW2 designs down to their cloaked "subs". Use to love using them because their turrets gave great firing arcs for broadsides.

Don't doubt yourself, this is a really good idea, and you've made it happen in a great way.

oh, and the hellcat's are awsome. you should have the flying fortress as the bomber.
