'Doom 4' Announced!

id Software announced today that development has started on Doom 4, “the next journey into the legendary DOOM universe.” Recently Carmack, Hollenshead and company have been farming out their franchises to outside developers such as Splash Damage's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Raven Software's Quake 4 but not so with Doom 4.
id Software has alluded to the fact that the title will be developed in-house, "It's critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles.”
Although it has not been confirmed, id Software is likely developing the title using their id Tech 5 technology, the same engine that is powering their upcoming original intellectual property Rage. Expect more information on the title during Quakecon 2008, happening from July 31st to August 1st.
Last but not least, id Software is looking for a large amount of employees as they ramp up production on the newly announced title. Hit the Careers at id page for more information.
