Ship auto designer

Any way to turn off this function?  I am playing the thal race and the ship designer is giving me 3 designs, all of the same exact build, very annoying.

Yep, and you can find this option in the setup screen(s) - tightly 'hidden' below a whole bunch of other gameplay settings.

thank you so much. That was driving me crazy. It seemed that each week I would get a 'new' ship design and they would be, mostly just ugly, useless space junk.

where is it? what setting exactly to disable this "feature"

Btw: I think it's a bug but you do not want to disable this feature since it builds better ships than user can.
Probably minimalization tech(s) not taken into account.

I mean, i feel like the answer below is in fact the proverbial 'Dad takes kid by the hand to the candy counter!'.

Options_Screen, Tab Game, Second Column (Game Options), second line right under the Change mod folder box; [X] Auto Design Ships for Player
Yes or No toggle type of thingy.

Sometimes.!.?.

Surely, you don't mean that, Lord Kiron. The autodesigned ships are all horribly slow, thus making them in effect useless (at least to my playing style)

I don't really care how they look, but the fact alone that they are designed with no engines, makes the whole feature kinda moot.

I might consider using the auto-designed ships, the day Stardock changes the feature to make ships with engines.

Slow or not but when you try to design ship with EXACTLY same components as autodesign does you just can't - it does not fit, at least until you research much more levels of minimization in game.
So to start with they are perfect defenders, slow yes but much more powerful then the designs you can create. Later in the game you can design your own but in beginning it good thing.

Got any examples with saves/screenshots of this?

kyro, I have seen this problem as well (posted about it elsewhere). In short, the auto designed shows have more components installed than should be allowed. I have save game I could send if you wish, I also have a screen shot but not sure how to post that. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks

Wow! In the imortal words of Anikan "Yipppeee!!"

Anyway, I see that this issue is mentioned many places within the forums so I am betting you guys are all over it, along with others. If hter eis something else I can send then post and let me know.

Thanks, i scanned over the option a couple times and missed it everytime! :SNIFF!:

The main reason i turned the option off, is that i prefer my naming system.

Also, is there a reason why the Thalan auto designer is producing both the Defender and Phoenix? Both appear to be producing the same ships (at least through laser 4).

The designer will put (one?) engines on them, but only if this wont make them weaker then the previous design. So its a bit tricky to get faster ships from it.

A feature do determine the how much defense and engines the designer should put into one ship is needed. also there should be a "reset" button to delete previous designs which are affecting new desgns.

But please fix that bug where it would use up more space then avialable. I have already send a savegame a few days ago to [email protected]

I have experienced this as well. But if i do understand correctly what i can see in my actual game, the autodesigned ships are constructed the way you are allowed at the moment. The ships show up in the builder as fully upgraded with more space used than you can. Also technologies you have not yet researched are shown - like plasmas as well if i yet have only particle beams available. The builder actually shows the best configuration, but it does not necessarily apply it to built ships. I had a Phoenix M1 that has 3 particle beams and three plasmas in the builder but the ships i built only got the particle beams because i had not yet researched plasma. Maybe it just works the way it should - providing you with the best available configuration at the moment.

The ship designer is a handy thing to have, but it definitely needs a slider for Engines. Maybe a slider for range too.
