Power Plants

Why bother

Why brother building power plants that give a precentage production boost when I can just build a new factory that will give me more production power?

Exactly, power plants aren't much to look at until you mathmatically get more from the percentage boost than you do another factory. So on your BIG industrial planets with 10+ factories, power planets become more feasible.

As you get better power plants though, the number of factories needed to make it viable reduces. The other thing to consider is the maintenance cost of the power plant vs the factories.

Things scale WAY out of control with the Dregin/Korath with their power plants since they can get multiple types to place on their planets.

Isn't there also a difference in how you're charged for the increase in production due to power plants?

I don't even research that part of the tech tree. AT some point I'll usually steal quantum power plants (the last one in that line) and then i'll build some of those. Since it gives a 30% boost. It will make sence to have tis on any planet with at least 3 manufacturing buildings, assuming not bonus tiles.

It works tyhe same as the research coordination center. AT a 25% boost to reserach it will vbe better thn another lab when you have at least 4 labs on the planet, assuming no bonus tiles.

If there is, I'm not aware of it. Now you do have to take into account that the +% from the power plant only applies to base production. I dont think it stacks with capitals and asteroids and stuff, so that might make the calculations a little different.

Never research them myself, I usually trade for them and then build one on my high production worlds. They are a great candidate for those tiles that open up later in the game as you start researching the terraforming techs.

Ok thanks all
