Jordan's Revenge

Part two...

All right, this is part two of the trilogy I'm writing. The first part was Altaria' Last Stand. https://forums.galciv2.com/176275. I've written a summary of part 1, but you may want to read the actual story if you want more details.

Okay: Here it is.

Prologue

At the end of Altaria’s Last Stand, Admiral Jim Ebyon had fled back to Earth to escape the powerful Dread Lords, and the Evil Drengin Empire. The Terran Alliance, along with their allies, the Arcean Empire, and the , had been fighting the Drengin and their allies, the robotic Yor Collective. The Terran Admiral James Ebyon, along with a leader of a rogue fighter squadron, Jordan Locke, uncovered a Drengin secret about a plan for an attack on Altaria, the capital of the . James (called Jim) and raced back to Twilight Station, which orbits Earth to deliver the important news. At a conference, the three civilizations formed a plan to defend Altaria.

As their time together goes on, Jim becomes more impatient with . The reckless academy graduate says and does things that contradict Jim’s beliefs. One day, Jim loses his temper at and insults him. then leaves. Jim’s first officer and friend, Altos Carniss, an Altarian, inquires about Jim’s loss of control. Jim doesn’t respond.

When the Drengin and Yor finally arrive, they learn that the Drengin leader, Lord Kona, had managed add more ships to the attack fleet, bringing the number of attack ships past one thousand, outnumbering the defenders three to one. Nevertheless, the defenders charged forward. Shocked by the braveness and ferocity of the attack, the Drengin nearly retreat. However, the massive battleship Lord Kona’s Pride appears, and goes on the attack. The Drengin reorganize themselves, and pound the defensive fleet. Despite the heroic efforts of Jim and Jordan, the defenders are pushed back farther and farther.

Then, a fleet of Torian Confederation ships jumped into the system, and attacks the Drengin as part of their long awaited revenge for their enslavement. With the odds evened, the Terrans and their allies begin to regain their strength. A giant flash then appeared, and then the evil Dread Lords, long thought to be extinct appear in the system, and start attacking everything. Both fleets are destroyed. The survivors scatter.

After a chase back to Earth, Jim and Altos learn that several Dread Lord attacks were pushed back, but the Drengin used this distraction to destroy the Terran Alliance and its allies. The Arceans were occupied. The and Torian Confederation went into semi-seclusion. Earth had built a giant shield to protect itself, the plans for which were given by a mysterious individual called Draginol.

The shield was quickly raised, but it had consequences. was trapped outside of Earth, along with a small fleet. With Drengin approaching, he had no choice but to flee. Jim wasn’t sure about what would do, but he had a feeling would attack the Drengin as revenge for destroying the Terran Alliance. The burden of discovering how the Dread Lords appeared, and how the Drengin were able to defeat the Terrans, now falls on the shoulders of Jordan Locke.

Chapter 1

Jordan Locke slumped in the seat of his personal fighter, watching the galaxy go by. It had been a long time since the remains of the Terran Alliance had raised a shield over Earth to protect themselves from the Drengin. But those morons forgot one thing: He wasn’t inside yet! And now, here he was, stuck with a small fleet of ships. Well, it wasn’t that small. Three Altarian heavy carriers, two Terran battleships the size of small cities, and various other ships really wouldn’t be considered small if you weren’t thinking in numerical terms. didn’t care. As long as it was strong, and could win major battles, he was fine with it. But still, he wondered why he was fighting for the Terrans, and leading this fleet. They shut him out of Earth. And Jim Ebyon, he was probably responsible. Wanted to get rid of me that bad? Oh, Jim is gonna pay for this one…, thought. What ever happened to Jim? One day he was starting to accept different kinds of people, the next he screamed at them. Idiot…

“?”

stopped thinking about the past and switched his radio on. “Zane? What’s up?” Zane Noverson was one of ’s fellow academy graduates. He was in ’s fighter squad, until he took refuge on one of the battleships. When took control of the fleet, he chose him for the position of first officer.

“We’ve got some news on the Dread Lords. Connor has been doing some hacking into the Drengin supercomputers, and we think we’ve found out the reason for the Dread Lords appearing. Head to the . Sorry to interrupt you’re pleasure flight”

“It really wasn’t a pleasure cruise; I was both patrolling and thinking. I’ll head over there now. It sounds important.”

took manual control of his fighter, and steered toward the ship Jim Ebyon used to command.

Chapter 2

Jordan turned on his communication system. “Independence, this is Locke. Heading to hangar 3.” Ever since he took control of the fleet, most military terms were not used anymore. Uniforms were also not required. The only thing that was needed to show affiliation with the fleet was a blue armband and an ID
The carrier’s hangar master responded. “Right, Captain Locke. Come on in.”
A door amid the Independence’s battle scarred hull slid open. Docking lights lit up. Jordan slowly moved toward the bay, looking at the ship his former friend used to command. The Independence and the other Terran ships stood out among the fleet. Their polygonal appearance gave them an intimidating look, compared to the gentle, flowing, organic curves of the Altarian carriers. The Terran ships had almost no paint, except for blue trim and a crudely painted Terran Alliance symbol. Some of the Altarians in the fleet complained of their grungy appearance, but Jordan found it to his liking. Let them look battle hardened. They are.
Jordan shifted his mind back to docking. He cut his speed, and adjusted his angles. Now everything was going smooth. Jordan sat back and glided in.
As soon as his fighter was completely in the hangar, the door slid shut. A few more bursts of thrust, and the fighter landed on the circular landing pad. Refueling tubes attached themselves, and the fighter’s cockpit opened. Jordan hopped out, and took a quick look around. The hangar looked exactly like the exterior of the ship.

After a quick elevator ride, Jordan entered the tech room. Two people were in there: Zane and Connor Noble. They were looking at holo-screen. Jordan walked in. “What’s the news?” he asked.
Connor looked up. He wasn’t exactly the stereotype of a computer nerd. In fact, he was the opposite. Before joining the Terran Navy, Connor was a pro Zero-G football player. “Well,” he said, “I’ve found the reason for the Dread Lords appearing. That’s the news.”
“Perhaps more details?”
Connor rolled his eyes. “Okay, here’s the long story. During fighting on a planet called Xaith, Drengin soldiers discovered some sort of Precursor crystal. They heard about other soldiers discovering a Precursor generator on another planet. So, they took the crystal there. Terran soldiers arrived too late to stop an idiotic Drengin officer from sticking the crystal in this slot. When he did that, a beam shot out, and opened the pocket universe the Dread Lords were in, the universe our navy now occupies. So, they go around destroying everything. We fight back, and the Drengin take advantage of our distraction, and annihilate us. We retreat back to Earth, and raise the shield. End of story.”
“Interesting. Keep this on record.”
“Yes, sir.”
“In the meantime, Zane…”
“Yeah?” asked Zane.
“Let’s go to the bridge. I feel like blowing up some Drengin.”
“Heh, heh. Let’s go.”
Jordan and Zane left the room, leaving Connor to ponder the secrets of the Dread Lords.

Good, but confusing. So Alterias Last Stand starts before the Dread Lords Campaigne? just clarafying that.
Again, really good story.

No, it takes place during Dread Lords, not before. Sorry for confusion.

Chapter 3

“Captain on the bridge!” said Zane as Jordan walked in and sat in the captain’s chair. Jim’s chair.
“Thanks for the introduction, Zane. Remember to keep things casual here,” said Jordan.
“Yeah, sorry.”
“Whatever.” Jordan turned to an attractive officer that he had stationed at navigation. “Hey, Ashley.”
Lieutenant Ashley Gardna turned around and looked at Jordan. “Yes?”
“Any reports of Drengin in the area? Zane and I are in what you call a fighting mood right now.”
Ashley grinned. “If you say so. I’ve noticed a Drengin convoy in the area. Wanna go after that? It has some defense, but we should be able to wipe it out.”
“All right.” He turned to Zane. “Get the engines primed. Head for the sector the convoy’s in.”
“Okay, man.”

After jumping to the sector with the convoy in it, it was a matter of minutes before the Drengin were in visual range.
The Altarian carriers Kolonzus, Altira, and Beruna launched their rather small wings of fighters. The Independence and the other battleship, the Royal Vengeance or RV, sped toward the convoy.
Jordan was puzzled. “Just what is this convoy carrying?”
“Looks like weapons, blueprints, and other military junk,” replied Zane.
“How powerful are the escorts?”
“Retribution frigates. Six of them.”
Jordan’s mind went back to the past again. Retribution-class frigates. These were the first type of ship Jim and Jordan had fought against. Destroying these was easy, but even seeing its appearance brought back memories. Zane spoke again.
“Can’t figure out why this convoy has so much protection; it would seem like…JACKPOT!”
Jordan spun around. “Win the lottery?” he asked sarcastically.
Zane snorted. “I wish,” he said, “The reason why the convoy has so much protection is that it is carrying high ranking military personal.”
Jordan raised his eyebrows. “Well, get the boarding shuttles ready.”
“Yes, your majesty,” said Zane with a quick eye roll.
Jordan rolled up his sleeves, jumped from his chair, and ran after Zane. It was a quick chase.
“Okay, okay! It was a joke, it was a joke!” Zane desperately yelled. Jordan and Zane both looked at each and burst out laughing. The bridge crew joined in. Zane looked around, embarrassed. “Enough,” he said, “Prepare for battle.”

Chapter 4

The Independence and the Royal Vengeance sped toward the Drengin convoy. The fighter wings followed.
“Computer, give status on phasor banks and number of quantum torpedoes,” ordered Jordan.
“Phasor banks one, two, three, four, six and eight running optimally,” said the computer in a deep and intimidating male voice, a preference Jordan set. He had decided that he had enough of annoying female computer voices. The computer continued. “Banks five and seven running at seventy-five percent power, due to lack of maintenance parts. Banks nine and ten non-functional. Torpedo tubes fifty percent full.”
Ashley looked worried about the status of the ship. Jordan looked at her. “We’ll make it,” he said with a hint of sarcasm. Jordan turned back to Zane. “Distance between us and the convoy?”
“We’re in range,” replied Zane.
Jordan rolled his eyes. “Do I have to hold your hand, dude? Fire the damn guns!”
Zane sighed and pressed two buttons, and loud hum sounded as the phasors struck three of the Retribution frigates. The Drengin ships exploded instantly. The remaining frigates unleashed a heavy barrage that would have destroyed a ship of its size into the Independence. The ship was shaken slightly.
“Any damage?” asked Jordan.
“Slight damage to the front shields, not very much, sir, ah, it’s fixed now,” said one of the bridge crew members.
“Send them a torpedo or two,” ordered Jordan.
“Yes, sir.”
A whooshing was heard, and two torpedoes struck a frigate, demolishing it. The bridge crew cheered. Jordan almost joined in, but restrained himself. He then frowned. It wasn’t like him not to cheer. Maybe the situation was too serious. Jordan frowned again. No, it wasn’t. I must be changing, he decided.
“Incoming missiles,” yelled Ashley.
“Activate ECM batteries one and two!” replied Jordan.
ECM beams flared and struck several of the Drengin missiles. A few got through. Zane almost fell over when the impact came.
“Damage report!” yelled Zane, after steadying himself.
“Port shields have taken hits, diverting power to bring them back to strength,” replied an officer.
Jordan switched his comm. system so he could talk to the men operating the front guns. “All right, you guys, prepare to demolish the last frigate. Then, fire on the convoy.”
“Yes, sir!” yelled the voice on the other end.
Seconds later, the rattling of hybrid turret fire was heard. Hybrid turrets were a new innovation from the Terran Alliance. Each shot consisted of mass driver round combined with a plasma shot. The guns worked wonderfully. The four hybrid turrets the Independence had at its bow had the most kills under their belts.
“We are receiving a message, Jordan,” said Zane.
“Open up a channel. Onscreen,” replied Jordan.
The communication screen opened. It showed a Drengin captain who looked like he had just recovered from a fall from his chair. “We surrender!” he yelled.
“Affirmative,” Jordan switched off the comm. and turned to the bridge crew. “Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s another victory for the Terran Alliance. Prepare to board.”

Chapter 5

Jordan and Zane walked through the captured Drengin ship with their rifles drawn. Though the soldier said the ship was secure, Jordan didn’t want to take chances. He checked the power level of his rifle again.
A soldier walked up. “Captain Locke? We have the prisoners ready for interrogation. Ready?”
“Lead the way,” Jordan replied.
The soldier brushed his long hair out of his face, and led Jordan and Zane to what appeared to be a conference room. It was obvious a fight had occurred before the ship was captured. Around two dozen Drengin prisoners were in the room, tied to chairs and surrounded by soldiers.
Jordan looked at one of the Drengin captives. The Drengin hissed at him. Jordan was not frightened in the least.
“Okay, who can speak our language?” yelled Zane. When none of the prisoners said anything, several soldiers raised their rifles. “I’m gonna ask that again. Who speaks English?”
It was obvious several Drengin knew how to speak English. Jordan walked over to one of them, who appeared to be a Drengin council member. “What do know about the Drengin Empire and its plans, mister?”
The Drengin snarled. “I am female, you fool.” Every Terran in the room was shocked and revolted. Faces froze. Several rifles clattered to the floor.
Jordan rolled his eyes. “Okay, man-woman, what do you know about the Drengin Empire? I’m getting impatient.”
“Why should I tell you anything?” said the Drengin
A soldier then took his gun and shot a Drengin captive. “That’s what will happen to you if you don’t tell us what Lord Kona’s plans are.”
The Drengin cackled. “If I’m dead, then you won’t get any secrets, now will you?”
Zane looked at Jordan. “Pretty smart cookie.”
A soldier butted in. “I’ll say.”
Jordan let out a snarl of his own. “I’m not in the mood for you being a smart ass. Time to get assertive.” Jordan pulled out a bottle of Torian Geyseth water. All of the Drengin paled.
Geyseth water came from special sources on the planet Toria. It contained chemicals helpful to the Torian, Arcean, and Terran /Altarian bodies. It was generally enjoyed as a refreshing drink. However, the chemicals in Geyseth water burned Drengin flesh, which was why the Torians used the water for torture. Jordan poured a cup full of the water. Without warning, he threw the cup at a Drengin official known for mass murder. The official shrieked and howled as the water ate away at his skin. The soldiers laughed. Even Jordan cracked a grin. He turned back to the female Drengin council member. “Want that to happen to you?”
The council member shook her head.
“Then what do you know about Lord Kona’s plans?” asked Jordan in a cool voice.
The council member looked at the other prisoners, then at Jordan. She finally burst out. “We were sent by Lord Kona to create a diversion against the Yor Collective! The convoy you and your fleet destroyed had weapons and materials to arm the fleet that would destroy them!”
“The Drengin are now attacking the Yor?”
“It’s the complete opposite.”
Zane spoke up. “Why would the Yor attack your civilization? You were allies.” “The leaders of the Yor Collective still say that they are allies with us! I don’t understand, and neither will you, because of the level of stupidity for your species! Well, you have the Yor as a problem now. Good luck defeating them.”
Jordan turned to look at flash that had occurred in the distance. He saw several purple ships a long distance away. As if the Yor were on cue… “Zane, let’s get out of here.”
“I’m way ahead of you.” He turned and left.
A soldier walked up to Jordan. “Any orders on what to do with the prisoners?” he asked.
Jordan smiled coldly. “Tell your men that they can have a quick round of live target practice.”
The soldier laughed. “With pleasure.”
Jordan walked out of the room. Another though of conscience passed through his head, one of emotion, one of ethics. He quickly put it out of his head.

Okay, I'm done being banned. Here's yet another chapter.

Chapter 6

Jordan and Zane ran onto the bridge of the Independence.
“Just how big is that Yor fleet?” asked Jordan.
“One mothership, two dreadnoughts, four destroyers, and various other ships. We’re outnumbered, and outgunned. Big time,” replied Ashley.
“Damn it! Get the fleet to jump to another system. Now!”
“Yes, sir. Where should we go?”
“Somewhere safe!”
Ashley opened her mouth to ask another question, but then she saw the seriousness on Jordan’s face, and punched in jump coordinates. “I found a system.”
“Good. Activate the engines.”
The was a hum as the warp system activated, then a roar as the max speed of the engines was pushed to the limit. The fleet sped off.

Half an hour later, the fleet arrived at an abandoned Arcean outpost. Twisted debris ringed the bombed out planet, as well as rocks from the destroyed moon. Death and destruction was everywhere.
“Do you think we’ll be safe here?” asked a bridge crewman.
“I’m not sure. Hopefully,” replied Jordan.
The fleet continued to look around the outpost. The Independence led the way, followed by the Royal Vengeance, then the carriers and support ships. There was no comm. chatter. Even the bridge was silent. The hum of the ships engines and computers were the only noise.
After another thirty minutes, the fleet moved into a group of asteroids. Hopefully we can be safe here, thought Jordan.

The fleets uneasy sense of security was shattered when the Yor appeared on sensors.
“You have to be kidding me!” shouted a crew member.
“Just how did they do it? How did they find us?” asked another.
“I don’t know,” said Jordan, “But we need to get out of here!”
Zane spoke. “Maybe they aren’t after us. Maybe it was just a coincidence that they’re here.”
Jordan rolled his eyes. “Maybe, huh? How do you think these ships powering up tractor beams and heading for us is a maybe?!” He turned back to the bridge. “Get us out of here!”

For days this went on, the fleet fleeing to system after system, only to be found by the Yor Collective ships. The chase kept going on, with no end in sight. There was no sleep. Some of the crew began to get angry, and even considered surrender a decent option. That idea was quickly struck down. But even Jordan began to lose hope.

The fleet jumped into an unknown system, the Independence leading the way as usual. The fleet was in bad shape. Engines had broken, most of which needed repair parts the fleet did not have on hand.
Jordan forced open his eyes. He sat up straight and realized he had fallen asleep in the captain’s chair. He looked around and saw that most of the crew had given into fatigue and had fallen asleep. Zane and Ashley were the only ones awake. Connor was sitting half asleep in a chair in the corner.
Ashley sighed. “I don’t know how they’re doing it, Jordan. They must be tracking us somehow. Of course, most ships can see warp signatures, but finding our exact location in a system even when we don’t have our engines on? I don’t get it.”
An alert sounded. Zane looked up and read the message that was being displayed. He groaned. “Well, what do you know? The Yor found us,” He sighed. “Jordan, we’re in really bad shape. The fleet is falling apart. Most of the engines are gone. The crew is going insane.”
“Going insane?”
“Yep. The medical bay is almost full with crew members who are losing it. Pretty soon, this fleet is gonna turn into a mobile insane asylum.”
“Zane, give me a break.”
“Okay, maybe I was exaggerating a bit. But still, I don’t think the Yor Collective will give up. You know how they are,” Zane paused a second, then burst out, “Jordan, please! Just give up! We’re never going to escape. We could try to run for help in a system with people in it, but what systems aren’t Drengin occupied? And besides, the fleet will fall apart or get captured before we even get there. Just surrender! We can pray that they will be merciful!”
Jordan looked disgusted. “The Yor Collective, merciful?! Zane, you must really be going crazy! The Yor will kill us as soon as they get us. I’m not going down without a fight!”
Another alert sounded.
“Computer, what’s the situation?” asked Jordan.
“Fifteen ships bearing the colors of the Iconians are closing in on us,” replied the computer’s deep voice.
“Their power?”
“More than this fleet, but less than the fleet of the Yor Collective. We appear to have reached the Iconian Empire.”
Good god. I’ve brought the Yor to the very people who are hiding from them. How could I do such a thing? Jordan was furious at himself. Zane and Ashley also looked dismayed.
The three young soldiers watched the Iconian ships head to confront the Yor. Jordan closed his eyes, awaiting the complete annihilation of the Iconian fleet. It never came. All that happened was a stand off.
One of the Iconian ships turned around and headed for the Independence. It hailed them. Jordan opened a comm. screen.
An Iconian officer on the other side spoke. “Ah, the Terrans. On the run from our old enemies.”
Jordan rolled his eyes. “Well, wouldn’t you run if you were outgunned?”
The Iconian wiggled the tentacles on his chin. “Well,” he said, “You should have made an attempt to communicate with them. They were seeking to simply talk with you.”
“Are you serious?”
“Quite serious.”
Jordan was speechless. “Then I just wasted countless engines parts and made half the crew’s stress levels skyrocket for no reason. Man am I an idiot.” He kicked himself.
“Have no fear. We will take you to one of our stations and repair your ships. We always do that to those who have reached us in need of help,” said the Iconian.
“That’s awfully generous.”
The Iconian wiggled his tentacles again. “Maybe, but that is how we are. Follow my ship. My friends will keep the Yor at bay. Now, we need to go. We have some distance to cover before we actually reach the Iconian Empire. Someone is waiting for you there.”
The Iconian fleet activated its Impulse Drive and sped off. The fleet followed.
Jordan sat back in his chair. They were safe. The Iconians were here. He and the rest of the fleet would be one of the few outsiders to see this reclusive civilization. The long chase was over.

Chapter 7

The Independence, the Royal Vengeance, and the other ships followed the Iconian ship after jumping into what appeared to be a barren system. A small rocky planet was directly in front of them. At first it didn’t appear to have settlements, but then Jordan saw lights on the dark side of the planet.
“Keep following me,” said the Iconian after hailing them again. “Don’t try anything.”
Jordan grunted.
The fleet sped on, eventually arriving at a station with the insignia of the Iconians on it. The station itself was flat, as it was an effort to blend in. Clever, thought Jordan. He also noticed that the station seemed to be made out of organic materials.
The fleet moved under the station. Docking clamps moved in to grab the ships. The carriers and battleships were too large to dock internally at a small station like this.
After docking, a message arrived. Zane read it onscreen. “We’re supposed to transfer to a passenger shuttle and dock internally. The shuttle we’re supposed to use just arrived in one of the hangars by itself, probably using a remote. Let’s go.”

Jordan entered the shuttle. It was fairly small, only designed for a few people. He sat in the cramped cockpit, and saw an instruction leaflet attached to the instrument panel. They still use paper for stuff like this? Jordan flipped through the book and learned how to start the engines, how to send a certain docking request, how to dock at the station, even how to fly the thing. It was like learning to fly all over again. He looked at the instrument panel again, and saw that the Iconians had kindly put English translations over the original language. He would still have to struggle to use the controls, which were designed for Iconian anatomy. Jordan flicked on the ignition, and used a radio he had brought along.
“Hangar control, this is Jordan. I’m ready. Open the hangar door.”
A groaning sound was heard as the hangar door slowly opened, grinding against the guide rails. Jordan made a note to himself to make the hangar workers lubricate the doors before they wore out.
Okay, let’s do this. Jordan slowly flew out of the hangar. He never liked flying small, cramped ships like this. He liked flying something without weapons even less. Still, it was just for a short distance. Even so, it was eerie that he was the only one allowed to fly the thing, and that he was alone.
The shuttle flew on. Jordan tried to lean back and relax, but sat up straight in discomfort. “Stupid chairs,” he said aloud.
After ten minutes, Jordan lined up the shuttle with what the Iconians said was the docking bay. It was hard to see where the bay was, then he saw it wasn’t really a bay at all, just an indent in the stations frame with tubes sticking out to allow ships in. The ends of the tubes were closed, and only opened to let ships in when necessary.
Okay, let’s dock. Jordan opened the computer console’s communication program, and after referencing the instruction booklet for the hundredth time, sent in a docking request. A docking tube then opened. Jordan applied a few more bursts of thrust, and then moved into the wormlike tube.
After flying through a considerable distance, Jordan arrived in a small hangar bay. Several robotic arms secured the ship. Jordan got up and put on a sweatshirt and stocking cap. He had received a warning about the low temperatures of the stations. The shuttle’s door opened with a hiss. Jordan stepped out, and braced himself for contact with a whole new alien species.

The walk through the station was one of the most eerie Jordan had ever known. Throughout spaces and gaps in the station, eyes gazed into him. He had seen plenty of movies with aliens, but now, walking through a station like this with beings that had never seen anything like him, he was the alien. The thought shook him to the core.
Jordan continued to walk. As he continued to move through the station, he felt more and more alien. The Iconians were following him now, trying to get a closer look at the strange creature that had arrived at their station. When he stopped, they stopped. When he moved toward a group of them, they shrank away. Several raised what appeared to be cameras, but the others pushed them away. They must think I escaped from a zoo or something, he thought. He couldn’t imagine going through what they went through. Thousands of years hiding, and now their old enemies show up, as well as a whole new creature, him.
At last, Jordan arrived at an archway. An Iconian guard walked up. He waved his tentacles in a symbol of greeting. He then held up a sign, written in crude letters, barely legible. After figuring out which letters were which, Jordan read it. It read: NEWCOMER. FRIEND IN HALL. GO NOW. The guard pointed past the archway and into a large hall to make his point clear. Jordan went in without a sound.
The hall was massive, and was dominated by a huge group of stairs. Someone stood on top of them. He appeared to be human. Well, at least there’s someone like me here. The figure was standing next to several Iconians.
Jordan began to hike up the high steps. Anyone who wasn’t fit would make it very up. Even Jordan's legs started to burn after awhile, and he wasn’t very high up yet.
After reaching the top, Jordan bent over to catch his breath. He then walked toward the figure who seemed human. And, the Iconians next to him, they were only statues.
“Hello, Jordan Locke,” said the cloaked figure.
A flashback played through Jordan’s mind. I know that voice… “Well, how exactly do you know me?” he asked.
“You know me, and I know you,” came the reply.
Jordan switched back to his usual, impatient mood. “Well, how do I expect to know who you are if I can’t even see who you are?”
“You sure haven’t changed. Not even seeing the Iconians has changed you.”
Jordan was taken by surprise. “Uh, yes I have. I, uh, just want to see who you are.”
The figure lowered his hood, and turned around. When Jordan saw who it was, his heart nearly stopped.

On the summit of the stairs stood Altos Carniss.
