Drath on Suicidal Large galaxy: Twilight

Does anybody even play the Drath in the new twilight expansion ?

I'm playing the latest build, 6c i think, and I find war profiteering very powerful.

I'm playin suicidal on a large map against max civs and minors using the drath myself and I'm winning easily.Tech victory and ascendancy are off though cause I dont like ascendancy atm and tech vict would make it too easy for the ai to win and i want to play a long game. Bonusses are in economy, diplomacy and science.

I start out with trying to colonize and researcdh as fast as possible. I start by going for translators and war profiteering. Once I start meeting alien races I contact them and set them to war by giving em tech. Usually by this time they are far ahead in tech, but there is always something usefull to trade. I try to make em go to war with as many civs as possible. Thats when the money starts to roll in. At the end of the first year Í'm making 2000 to 3000 credits in the plus. My sliders are usually at 33/33/33 and taxes are as low as possible to get 100% approval. No need usually to invest overly heavy in economy buildings or to bother with trade routes. I keep the wars between the ai's continuously going so as to max my war profiteering and that way they dont attack me. Why take on another race (me) if you're already at war with every other civ :)

Once I build a nice little fleet I attack. The Torians usually as with this build 6c they seem to be the best, their population growth and agressive colonizing seem to be incredibly overpowered compared to every other civ. You'd think the drath and korath would beat the crap out of them as the Torians usually dont bother to build defenses for the first few years, but nope..they are sitting still like bunnies. Or so it seems :) cause they sure arent populating like bunnies.

I haven't finished this game on suicidal yet, but so far it looks like i'll win. Its a lot of fun though, on suicidal. The green blob is scary.

The other game I played with the drath was 2 difficulty levels lower, and i won that easily.

You may want to wait a bit before pronouncing this easy (though it may in fact be so) :). Once you start declaring war, your profiteering income will drop, and once you control a significant portion of the galaxy it will start dropping severely, and you won't be able to build the MCC to stabilize your economy. It's very doable to win in such as situation, but it can lead to a rather delicate phase as your economic footing shifts from profiteering based to tax based (which requires population base [which means worlds, morale buildings and farms] and lots of econ buildings. I think your race set-up makes quite a bit of sense for the Drath btw.

I've been thinking maybe i should forget the economy bonus and take pop growth instead.
That'll make the start a lot faster and easier, also good for invasions. Perhaps next game.

And going to war does not decrease my profiteering income, that comes from other races warring with each other. But if Í kill them off or severely decrease them then yes i'll lose income. So I try to find a balance until i'm strong enough not to care about that.

You're right though, its still early and the AI could easily wipe me off the map if it tried. But it seems to be a bit too busy with all the other wars :) thats the genius of my strategy and the drath superability of course.

The profiteering bonus only applies to races that are at war and that you are currently at peace with. You do not get the profiteering income from any race you are at war with. Thus, the more races you declare war on, the fewer give you profiteering income. There was a thread on this with a dev post confirming this mechanic recently in the Twilight forum.

I like playing this way with the Drath - I use Torians and Drengin as minions, getting them to conquer planets and then buying them while the price is low immediately after conquest.

Economywise, trading for the best Iconian econ building has worked wonders in the past, though tech trading was making my games as the Drath WAY to easy so I turned it off. Also, I do tend to build trade routes for the sake of diplomacy more than money as it takes a while to get a military going. Finally, of course: Altarians! 3 wars for the price of one! But as I think was discussed on another thread, only if you're not playing good yourself & can't get dragged in...

The Drath are probably one of the best races for playing "in character": nothing like watching Altaria fall before the Drengin hordes, and then showing up waving a fistful of bc and chortling malevolently.

You're right Justin, I didnt pay attention before to what happened to my income.

Anyway I played this suicidal large game some more and am winning easily. I've taken several Torian planets, then bought peace with them cause i ran out of transports.
After that I wiped out some of the weaker races, Arceans and Iconians.
I've quadrupled in size now and am the mightiest empire of em all. Even if the game doesnt say so.
The Korath and Drenging have started to grow a lot more agressive finally and have been keeping the Torians very busy. Systems just keep changing hands and the Korath are really using those sporeships.
I still have not been declared war on by anyone, Drath tactics work wonders it seems.

anyway, I havent finished the game yet but its clear i've won as no single race can stand up to me. I think I'll pick a fight with the Korath next as their military is supposed to the strongest and it'll get my troops a lot closer to the Terrans who have been busily at war with the Krynn and seem to be winning there.
Although of course every AI race is at war with every other AI race. Love the Drath :) Lots of action.

Still you'd think the AI would get the picture sometime and see me for the warmonger I really am. Perhaps then they'll form an alliance to get rid of me. But I guess that'll never happen.
