DesktopX is a great new experience!

Hi All,

I'm new to the whole desktop customizing thing.
Recently purchased Object Desktop Ultimate and a few other programs and skins.
I'll have to admit that I was totally overwhelmed with it all for the first two weeks.
Thanks to a wonderful WindowBlinds theme by I.R. Brainiac, I've really started to get into this.
Once I downloaded Knot_Vista it was all over.  :)
I had to get in there and customize my desktop just like I wanted it. What a wonderful place to start though.
I do woodworking as a hobby so Knot_Vista really suits my taste.
I added the Knot_Vista Cursors and skinned up my Docks and went with the Brown Glass Icons set.
By signing up with WinCustomize, I've got endless downloads and access to a lot of goodies.
I had a bunch of cool pics of old scrolls, quills, antique maps etc. all with a brownish tint.
By adding attributes to these using DesktopX along with adding some downloaded Objects I think it's lookin' pretty good now ...
... for a beginner, that is.
I added the Knot_Vista BootScreen and Logon to make the whole computing experience a nice wood tone one.
I like it, What a Blast it is finally figruring out how to use (some) of the great features in DesktopX and finding out how all of these Object Desktop Programs work together to do exactly what you want.

I''ve made a lot of mistakes and started over too many times to count but one thing I have learned is to SAVE your DX often!

It's late so I didn't upload a screenshot yet but will in the near future as time permits.
Thanks to the creators of these great programs, great downloads by all of you skinners out there and for the support from Stardock and the forums!

Yup, I can see how we sometimes might want to go back to a previous version.
An "AutoSAVE" feature would be a great feature on DesktopX for a future upgrade.

I'll have to admit, DX is pretty intuitive and easy to learn compared to many other software. I haven't gone through any Tutorials yet but wanted to get acquainted with it first then hit some of the tutorials. That way I'll have a clue what they are referring to.

I've been using PhotoPlus 6.0 (nice little freebie program) to do any image editing or making pics into PNG's.

One of these days I'll need to spend as much time with SkinStudio 6.0 and learn how to actually work with some skins. That's a whole new ballgame to me so I think the learning curve may be a little steeper.

What a great set of tools Stardock has!
I'm a draftsman so I can appreciate creating things easy on the eyes, this just makes doing my drafting a bit more fun since I can set up the 'puter the way I want instead of being stuck with something out of the box.

"Think outside the box" ... now that could be a Stardock sales pitch if I ever heard one. :)
