Yay! Supreme Court upholds photo ID law for voters in Indiana

6-3 decision for common sense

I love this news (from Associated Press, by Mark Sherman, Associated Press Writer):

Supreme Court upholds photo ID law for voters in Indiana

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court ruled Monday that states can require voters to produce photo identification without violating their constitutional rights, validating Republican-inspired voter ID laws.

In a splintered 6-3 ruling, the court upheld Indiana's strict photo ID requirement, which Democrats and civil rights groups said would deter poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots. Its backers said it was needed to prevent fraud.

For details on who voted what ways for this one:[more]

The law "is amply justified by the valid interest in protecting 'the integrity and reliability of the electoral process,'" Justice John Paul Stevens said in an opinion that was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Anthony Kennedy. Stevens was a dissenter in Bush v. Gore in 2000.

Justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas also agreed with the outcome, but wrote separately.

Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and David Souter dissented, just as they did in 2000 (in Bush v. Gore).

The opinions for this one actually should make for very interesting reading for those that care to spend the time on the topic.  Regardless, I'm glad to see the decision that came here and obviously (from my headline/title) am happy about same.

You're wasting your time trying to get an honest, intelligent, fact based response from that cretin. Insults and parroting of DNC talking points is all it knows. You'll never get a direct answer to a question because it doesn't truly know how to think for itself, it just repeats what it's read and heard elsewhere without ever bothering to check any facts as that would require actual thought.

Exalty. It is a mindless worm that only exists to spread disease and die.

Oh you will get plenty of direct answers, none that YOU will ever have a high enough IQ to comprehend, but intelligent people will.

Not even that, really - all it does is hurl insults. Nothing even close to facts.

And once again it chooses to toss out an insult instead of any sort of cogent statement. Thinking is far beyond it's capability while it continues to claim intelligence without ever once demonstrating it anywhere at any time.

I'm beginning to think Dr Guy is right, it isn't even human, just an inane bot. No human being could possibly be that obtuse.

Actually there was no insult. I simply stated that you would have to be intelligent to understand my responses. Stating that you are unintelligent is a statement of fact. You being insulted by the facts is an irrelevant.

Actually it was passed on the grounds that Republicans opposed the concept of democracy and felt only wealthy white landowners votes should count.

One of my grandmothers is from that state she was not rich, white, or a land owner yet she had picture ID even though she did not drive. Do you ever make statements that are not filled with hyperbole and or rancor?
