WLd Mod

WLd Mod

First mod; be kind :P

This is a maligned graphic mod I've been working on over the past year or so. I've rebuilt it quite a few times and am doing so again for the Entrenchment Expansion. I hope to actually finish it this time around.

I'm currently working on the TEC effects. Unfortunately this modding thing is still new to me, so its taking me a little while to turn out new particle effects. :annoyed:

Thanks to Annatar for answering my mod questions.

Click 2x to get to the HD version on youtube and excuse my poor video capturing skills.

Feedback is appreciated.

That was waaaay better than what you had originally. Hell, its awesome just because of its originality. I don't think a ship has ever used asteroids to just pummel a planet with. If you could do something about the asteroid color maybe make it red that would look good. Oh and the hit effect was excellent BTW. Who needs a nuke to make a crater when you have asteroids? Oh but Marza needs some kind of firing effect from it. Like a flash when the asteroid passes through it.

I dont think it needs much of an explanation... If it were my creation I'd simply say every time a maraz goes into an enemy system it realeases a swarm of robotic probes that attach to orbiting debris in the hope to be used as planetary bombardment projectiles.

the concept and execution rock.

Yea. But it would be even cooler to have the Marza actually release a 'probe', have the probe teleport in a flash or some other effect, and then comes the asteroid bomb.

I'm planning on using the muzzle effect to make the Marza look like its generating a magnetic field of some sort. I might also be able to move the weapon point on the mesh file to somewhere inside the planet so the asteroids don't have to go through the Marza.

Glad everyone is liking the concept so far though. I'll try to polish it up. :)

An Aurora Borealis style muzzle effect would be great for this. The Marza will be using intense magnetic fields to propel the asteroids, at least when they are close by. Add in proximity to the planet's atmosphere and magnetic fields and you get an aurora. Besides, the Aurora Borealis just looks cool.

From a lore perspective, the Marza could simply distribute nanotechnology builder bots that attach to spacerocks and then use the asteroid's material to first build a powerful engine on them, and then phase them into local space on a collision course with the planet when summoned. The imprecise phase field this process generates would kill any normal crew, so they can't use similar teleportation capabilities on their own ships.

Lost - you continue to impress, guy. :)

I also checked out the game files to see how they did the little "elevator" structures on the planet, hoping they could be used to create a glowing crater that lasts quite a while and rotates with it. Doesn't look like it can, unfortunately - there's no "rotate with planet" switch so I'm thinking it's hard-coded somewhere.

btw, got an ETA on the new version?????I haven't made a single release date I've given yet so, at the risk of owing Blizzard Entertainment a royalty fee...When it's done.Just know I'm putting all my free time into modding. *Editbtw, got an ETA on the new version?????he said by the end of this week, he should have about 2/3(?) of it done.Hopefully.

i lmao'd @ the 100 :D

if you could make it not have 2 go through the marza, and show some magnetic effect, showing that those aren't just regular asteroids hitting the planet, that would be awesome.

Well HammerSun had fun with orbiting moons for his mod, so there is something there that can be done I think with regard to this something can be done.

And yes, a new version for our explosive pleasure would be nice. Watch out though, Blizzard can be nasty when it comes to their stuff, especially anything that has to do with something that is theirs and theirs alone. Like the phrase "When its done."

Loved it! I like how the Marza "summoned" the asteroids / comets. Derbal is right though, you need to explain how this is done somehow just to wrap things up. Maybe a "gravity" engine tech or "effect", like the one currently in game. That would make it more believable, that the Marza has a gravity device, able to grab object from deep space.
OR....You can call it "Heavy Artillary", and the shots are actually planet based cannons shot from the TEC's homeworld or Earth, which of course you don't have to show or explain. This has been done in countless other games, so don't be afraid to use that.
I love the effect, keep up the good work. Can't wait until nex release.

Got a problem with this mod.
I download it and put it in the mod folder, I run the game and tries to enable the mod. The game freezes for about five seconds before you can hear a "windows error-sound" and SoaSE creates a minidump and crashes directly after. I use 1.04 and no other mods so I don't have any clue about what's going on here, help would be wonderful

I have no clue.

My only advice would be to re-download the files and install them again.
Also make sure your version is actually 1.04. If you updated to 1.05 unknowingly you should just need to replace the old Malice files with the changed Malice gameinfo files from 1.05. :)

When's the next version tho?

When it's done.

I want this version to make the original look utterly craptacular. :d
It takes time though. :NOTSURE:

Does this work online?

I've never tried it but, it should as long as everyone you're playing with is running the same exact mod.

PS. Thanks for everyone's interest in this mod.

Ello, I've added a new video to my original post again. Alternatively, you can also click here to visit youtube and take a look at it.

Hope it doesn't suck.

kitchen sink? wut.
I liked the effects separate, but the final bombardment looked wierd. maybe its just my early morning eye sight, but the colors didn't quite mix.

Congratulations. You've now made kitchen sinks one of the scariest damn things in the Sins universe.
:D

That's excellent, Lost. I'd suggest you please reduce the saturation of the Marza muzzle flash, as it's a bit overpowering. Further, UEF does have a point with the purple hue on initial contact - pure white with a touch of yellow, maybe, fading to darker orange later?

Fixed. :)

Did you guys like the Marza travel effect being blue?

I was trying to make it look like a comet but I'm not too sure if everyone will be forgiving for straying outside the TEC's usual color pallet.

At first i thought it would be better in orange/red, but then i realized that the strong magnetic fields would cause disortions, making it like that color. and the comet's icy, so its blue like that as well. So :CONGRAT:

Bah, everyone needs to run it? I'm out. I only play online but I'd like to see models reskinned to higher texture and improved effects added.

Bloody hell, this looks excellent! The only two suggestions I have are to remove/change the flash when the nukes hit, it looks good with the asteroids but a bit out of place with the slower missiles. An idea that would make the Marza's sieging even cooler would be to have the explosion create a long lasting dustcloud over the area. Can't wait to see what you do next!

Excellent work on all of that. New TEC vid looks great, especially the updated Marza effects. I thought you were going to change some point on the Marza mesh so the comet didn't pass through it. Unless you say it uses pinpoint phasing to pass through it......

It wouldn't let me move the "bomb" point off of the ship mesh to do that. :NOTSURE:
As far as explaining the projectile passing through the ship... a wizard did it. ;)

I'm still trying to figure out a way to add some clouding graphics without jacking up the particle count on the effect. Clouds probably won't make it into this version though.

Thanks, and keep the feedback coming please.

Absolutely fanfriggintastic! I am glad you took the whole "gravity engine" idea and ran with it. Now it makes sense that the Marza "summons" asteroids and slams them into the planet. Personally, I wouldn't change a thing, but thats me. LOVE IT, LOVE IT!
