Ship Builder ... outside the game?

I think it would be great if we could get some little addon that where we could build ships and not actually have to be in game.

A lot of times, I have an amazing idea based on a hull size or style that isn't available. Or if I'm busy (like at work) and just want something to do in those strange idle times, or at lunch, but it isn't really "game play". Let us have access to all the styles at the same time so we can mix and match accordingly and call it our own style (which DA does a bit I think).

I'd enjoy that, just to have something to do in my spare time.

Set up a raceconfig file in which you have all the techs you'll need.
Then start a game, go into the ship builder and build your ships.

It's not that difficult.

Well, I was hoping that the "editor" would also be markedly less smaller in processor/RAM power.

That's probably the hardest thing the game does so it wouldn't be much, but maybe enough to multi-task with a bit less jitter.

And yes, I could make a raceconfig file, but then I'd have to know all the techs, or at least type them all in. I don't know, would this also make a playable race and if I'm 100 turns into a gigantic game and I happen to bump into "Your Shipbuilder Race" do I restart the whole game?

Anyway, it would be much more pleasant and not require any game editing experience to create ships.

All it takes is a bit of copying and pasting from the TechTree.xml into a custom race raceconfig file. No typing required.
And if you use a custom race, the AI has no access to it.
It would only make a playable race for you, if you chose to use it that way.

As for processor/ram requirements, a new game in which all you are doing is designing ships won't take all that much.
