strange error....

i forgot to mention the settings...

Searchbox horz offset : 62

Searchbox vert offset : 17

ive really only moved it horizontally vertically nothing has changed.......so yeah im kinda miffed.

and that icon is still luna, i havent skinned it ......

I get the same thing on the skin I'm working on........

If you type something in the searchbox the spyglass pops up to the center after words :NOTSURE: and stays the for the rest of your session.

I've seen this on other skins as well so I'm ignoring it for the time being

thats right.........same for me.......... id luv to ignore it....but i feel bad if i submit my skin with this error..... :NOTSURE:

Yeah that happened on my bold and it is happening on my new skin I am makeing now? It just may be because the Icon stays at the os default position when you move the search box up I have tried to mess around with the text. It changed just now as I was working on a skin and was messing with the bottom bar height? Maybie that has something to do with it?

that has to deal with your content settings.. change them (the top and bottom ones), you'll see that the stuff will move

Let me explain further... Its my belief that the box and buttons are set to a specific height from the top of the bottom bar image of the start menu. If you change the content settings for the top, the box does not move but the contents in it does. maybe its the other way around...

Mind you this is only my belief, but try messing with that

So what actually fixes this?Nothing I tried would budge it.And when you do type something...from then on it 'jumps' into place. :p 

You'll need to play around with the margin settings I believe IR, not a 'true fix' per say but it will correct it

It didnt...nothing moves it.(except typing in the box)

SKS6 is flaky stuff...hard to navigate,some controls work backwards...takes longer to do anything...huge wasted screen space...no explanations of anything.

these adjustments are wacky...they dont always get applied...so you cant tell if you did it right or not...  

still misaligned

tried settings from other skins,aero metal,diamond,leo...makes no difference.Spinning my wheels here...what awaste of time for something that should be set and forget.  

And how the heck do you move the power butons?

These 2 issues have bugged me while skinning.

It seems that in order for the search box and shutdown buttons to be aligned correctly, one has to design one startpanel around the buttons and searchbox!

The only way I've found to combat the misaligned search icon is to mess with the height of the bottom bar. The buttons cannot be moved.....:( (:(

Perhaps I just an idiot and someone will come along and correct me if I'm wrong :p

all progs menu is the wrong color...it looks like the classic button face color...can it be set different than the button color?

Text on the search results isnt centered on the mouseover.Sits low...looks like shit.

Mouseover on the search everywhere and internet runs off the end of the all progs arrow area...crap.

User icon background dosnt work.

This is just issues on the Start menu...cant imagine what other fun things are headed my way. ;p 

This sure is a lot of 'cants' for a single skinning section.

If you look closely, you'll see that the text is underlined. I have come to believe that that that text is hard coded in the OS (I went through Modify Vista part fonts and changed every underlined font one by one without it having any affect on this section)

I believe you'll have to blame Microsoft for most of these issues, though not Niel

Color of the 'All Programs' mouseover is set by the Menu Higthlight. The All Programs background is set by your windows background color. Also the left side of vista start menus should be wider so you can actually read the items pretty well.


The search box should be moveable according to the margins, if this is not working try a different size setting for bottom bar. Though I have fixed this problem in the past by adjusting margins, I don't know why this does not seem to be working for you. Search results from that box should align to the left and fit in the same section the all programs menu does. The mouseover for those items will be the same as the start menu item button/mouseover just like the all programs menu mouseover is.


Vistas 'user icon background' is default and can not be changed (yet, maybe someday).

That dosnt work...it moved from the xy coordinates but wouldnt budge with margins...no margin setting tried(and I tried a lot)would alter the position of that search icon(or the searchbar itself).Redesigning or resizing the bottom bar is unacceptable.Power buttons will not move at all away from the searchbar.  



Underlining isnt the problem tho it dosnt help when aligning text to LOOK good.This areas text is sitting low on the icon(which is centered)This is a Vista screwup but it does bring out a WB limitation...content margins in WB sometimes do nothing(ask a visual styler how often that happens...never is what I was told...if you adjust a content margin,text moves)
That has been a sore spot with WB from day 1.In this case,there ARE NO content margins...never have been.Icons ALWAYS jam into the edges of the graphic. (:( 

User Icon background...it dosnt show when mousing on other items so it would seem possible to intercept that call. :NOTSURE: 



All progs mouseover...how WIN98 to use a solid block of color...isnt the text changing color and the arrow changing states enough of a visual clue that its active?

All progs menu is window color?Not here it aint.I'm seeing another lame block of color,and its NOT the window color.(that would at least be readable just ugly)  The search results just replace the programs list with the results...that looks fine.Why the hell does the all progs menu have to be different?Lame.  

If I'm using WB to skin windows...IT NEEDS to take control of this stuff...not let windows dictate how this looks.Isnt that the whole idea?  

ok I tried to 'duplicate' the 'error' but nothing I do causes the searchbox text and/or icon to 'relocate' to an odd position. I tried moving text margins for the bottom bar, the top bar and everwhere. I tried resizing the bar, nothing. I tried even changing the start menu item mouseover margins and still nothing. For whatever reason I just can't 'cause' this error now for anything :/

Changing the 'Search Box Horz/Vert Offset" does work to move the searchbox and buttons as a whole, but thats about it.

The searchbox noraml state color is defined by the windows background color.

The 'All Programs' menu background color is defined by the 'Button Face / Dialog Background' color.
