ObjectDock 2.0 any time soon?

ObjectDock 2.0 any time soon?

Seriously, when was the last update?

Ok, so i'm just wondering when OD is going to see 2.0? I have VERY few problems with the current OD (running on XP in tandem with WindowsBlinds -- Plus Version) but there is one feature that is SERIOUSLY missing:

that is the ability to drag files/folders/links, etc INTO a "Flyout Menu" !! that annoys me so much!! You have go into the fly out menu and then manually add the files, what a pain! Just model 2.0 off of the new OSX dock -- that thing works well.

In Example for the above, i want a flyout menu called "recent projects" or something like that, where i can drag in files and such of recent projects, but as is now i have to creat a whole TAB to do that!! i don't really like that at all.

The other (less major) problem is the lack of a link to "My Network Places"...? whats with that? i tried to import it using the shortcuts option, but it isn't possible.

Oh, and another MAJOR thing is the complete lack of DECENT docklets! who wants to know what the weather is!? give me a WORKING RSS reader anyday (i use Yahoo! widgets for my RSS only now!). i have searched the web but havn't found any good third party docklets, so if someone could steer me in the right direction? or are there seriously NO good docklets?

Anyway, could someone please get back to me with facts about the reality of 2.0 (or above) / opinions about my ideas? Thanks

Call me stupid, but I fail to understand this whole pre-order-thing here. Why pre-order ? Will it be out of stock after 1000 buys ? Are there any special functions when You 'pre-order' that are not in if You just order when the beta is out ? As much I understand that it will cost something, I am completely lost with this campaign.

Pre-order is giving you early access to the application.  Pretty much the same as with WindowBlinds and any other app that has early "beta" releases for people who are either current subscribers or who preordered.

Offering to sell it before the beta is even out is a first for us though (for desktop apps)

Considering that existing OD+ customers get access to in-cycle betas anyway, what is in the way of providing time-limited access to 2.0 beta as well? You get the feedback and bug reports and people get a trial of an improved product. It's a win-win.

Essentially, people are being asked to invest in something that they don't know when they will get it, how it will be and whether it will work on their PCs. That's a lot of going out on a limb, especially considering that Object Dock's recent track record has not been exemplary (for one reason or another). Cynically speaking, it appears that Stardock is in a great rush to get a return on its investment without taking into account said track record, falling interest in OD and conventions of early access to software.

That is my concern about the whole thing...

Tried to purchase the upgrade using PayPal but a little pop-up window from the Stardock store tells me

"Sorry, you cannot checkout using PayPal when your order contains a preorder product."

So I put my purchase intentions well and truly on hold since they seem so unwilling to complete the transaction using a method Stardock offers.

I do not use credit cards so sorry, I will not get this product until released as a full gold product. I also refuse to be pay to be a Beta tester, not even Mincrosoft does that.

Sure, but a perk of being a beta tester was a bonus to purchasing a product license. Now there's a turnaround: you pay to get into the beta with a perk of getting the official release when it's all done and dusted. Seems the same, but it really isn't. When I pay to see a stand up comedian, I don't pay to see the supporting guy while the main act nips off for a quick snack/toilet break ;P

OK inc0gnito, I understand what you are trying to say, but regardless, if you don't want to participate then it's purely optional.

And I should note again, creating duplicate accounts to circumvent previous actions are a no-no.  ;)

It's pretty much the same as every online game release since World of Warcraft... *shrug*

Yup. There are quite a few MMO's that have done the "Pre-purcahse and get your slot in the beta" thing. I havnt done it myself. How ever, for Object dock, and the upgrade being 10 bucks i went for it. I like object dock. Its been very handy for me. So Im excited to play around with 2.0.

P.S. Good question on the x64 stuff. Im really hoping I can finally add a start menu to these things, and use other features that x64 were not supported before.

\Only if I elect to purchase the product. I have not paid a dime to tech net to test office 2010. I may or may not purchase the final product.

In the case of Stardock you are paying to test the product, I know it also includes the purchase of the produt. The question is after the testing I do not want the product would Stardock refund the money, I think not.

That is the difference, no matter how you spin it.

So what? You have the choice of not paying and not try the beta too. That's fact, no matter how you spin it. It doesn't prevent you from waiting until the final product is released in any way.

OK!!! I get it!!! you don't want to pay 10 or 20 bucks to pre-order the app. that's your prerogative. nobody is making you shell out the dough. but, and it's a HUGE but, that doesn't mean you have to make numerous posts to state your displeasure. one post would have done the trick.

Mike...the free version is not the same as the Beta OD+2.... You probably know that...just added for folks who don't.  :)

yea i know, but someone complaining about paying for it and then deciding they don't like it, don't buy the beta, wait until final and try the free version.  simple as that.  i jumped to pre-order for beta access, i love stardock stuff.  $10, i mean really complaining about $10?  anyways, i was searching for a new dock and while doing that, i saw the pre-order email.  i jumped on it and stopped looking for a new dock

You can't try the OD+ features in the free version though.

So just to clarify here: (need to set myself at ease)  :-"

I bought this app about a week ago - without realising that OD2+ is so close (probably a minor mistake on my part not to do proper research beforehand) - what are my choices now, exactly?

Do I buy the 'beta-rights', or will I be offered a free upgrade to OD2+ once it's officially released due to my recent purchase?  And if I DO purchase the beta-version now, willl the final version be made available to me free of charge once it's released?

Sorry if I missed something and am repeating a question.
