I am an American!
I am not a black American or an African American I was born in this nation, I fought for this nation as did my father, I cherish my father’s official Marine Corps photograph of him on Iwo Jima while fighting was still going on. Unlike my father I failed to remember to duck in a fire fight so I came home with an extra orifice and a bad heart, and the ungrateful Corps kicked me out long before I was ready to leave. I was out of work with no prospects and a wife and two young children.
I started a small business, because the American dream says that anyone can do anything if they set their mind to it. Sure I take government assistance in the form of disability pay, but I worked hard, it failed and I started another and it failed because my partner absconded with the money and left me with a huge debt. I paid back all my debts without filing bankruptcy and six years later started another business. Still keeping that dream of making it. I consult for government to supplement my income as I struggle to survive. My kids are all grown now and the youngest two of the three have made me a grandfather. I am not rich unless you are a liberal in which case I am an evil conservative making money on the backs of the poor. I write books for fun on many topics both fiction and non-fiction and suddenly there is an American running for the highest office in the land that looks like me, and that stirs some pride that my grandmothers cousin Roy Wilkins would be proud that in such a short time Negro’s have reached that stage of acceptance.
I look at the man who would be president and am saddened that he is not of my political affiliation and that he is an empty suit but I still hope he will do well, but I fear that he will do the nation I love harm, I look at the other Americans running for office and see that there is not much difference between them, sure one is an fascist woman, the other is an old crazy man, but all three are equally dangerous to our beloved nation. I am told that race, gender, and age are the factors in this election and I disagree most strongly. Race, age and gender have nothing to do with this election unless you are an idiot with a short attention span. The most important factor of this election is who will do the nation the best good, who will lead the nation in the right direction to ensure my grandchildren will have the same chances I have, who will continue the American dream?
After serious thought I find that Senator Mrs. Clinton is the weakest of the three. She could not lead the nation because she like her husband has only one goal in mind, to become president. Her programs and ideas are antiquated, racist and anti-American. Sure some women would like to see a woman president but this one is not the one that will lead our nation. Everything she has done has been a political disaster, she is truth adverse, and only sees dollar signs as her end goal.
Still with serious thought Senator Mr. McCain gives the appearance of a doddering old man, sure his unsteady walk is caused by surviving years of torture but he seems unstable, and most important he does not demonstrate to me any leadership. He has no understanding of how business works yet his wife is a millionaire in her own right. He has participated in making laws that hurt our nation and damage our ability to succeed as a nation. I have a lot of fear with this person as I do with Senator Clinton.
With immense serious thought we are left with Senator Mr. Obama. Sentimentality causes me to lean in his direction but my business sense and patriotism tell me that only one chance in four will he lead our nation in the right direction. He is a liberal with anti-American beliefs that make him only slightly less dangerous than Senator Clinton. He is enough of an empty suit that with the right advisors he could be just as impotent as Senator McCain.
As an American I am left with only three choices for this election, vote for an American that looks like me or vote for one that does not, or stay home and pray that the next four years will not be as challenging as the last eight but my military training tells me that no matter who is elected America will be seen as weak and each time we have had a weak president we have been attacked. Kennedy, Carter, Clinton, and the current President Bush were all seen as weak by non-Americans and each time they were tested and we were attacked. Only Presidents Kennedy and Bush proved them wrong when the Soviets tested Mr. Kennedy and the Chinese tested Mr. Bush. In this election they are all perceived as weak and with only the three weak senators in the running all of our enemies are licking their chops and making plans. Of the three Senator McCain is the only one that might cause some pause to our enemies but domestically he is weak so we would end up with maybe a strong international leader and a weak domestic leader. The other two senators are weak internationally as well as domestically.
With that in mind I have to lean to Senator McCain because I am an American first. If I had my choice for president I would walk through fire to see Doctor Rice as our next president but she wants to be the commissioner of the NFL rather than leader of our nation. That is her American dream and I can’t fault her for it but she is what our nation needs. With the vacuum of leadership at the top we will need a strong congress to guide and lead the nation and I see no one out of the 535 congress men and women that are up to the task. Bomb shelters anyone?
