JUWC- Choices

(This one's pretty vague and spacey...but it's what came out...so, uh...enjoy)

So I came upon a divergence in my path. My dusty, faithful road that led me for so long now forced me to choose.

To the right or to the left, where shall I go?

I sat down to think about this, after all I did have all the time in the world.

Which way is best?

I gaze at them and they seem nearly identical.

Do they lead to the same place or to some other time and space? I smile a bit. Looks like my mind can still wax poetic.

I’ve been walking for a long time. Getting away from that mess I once knew. It really felt good just to let my mind wander as my feet took me to some new destination. A breeze in my hair, the sun on my back- yeah, it was a great way to pass the days. No worries, no responsibilities, none of that…stuff.

I reckon this whole trip has been therapeutic, but now I have to make a choice. Funny thing about choices, sometimes they’re right and sometimes they’re wrong. Usually you don’t know until shit hits the fan. So can anyone really blame me for taking a breather to think this over? Nah, didn’t think so.

I lounge there for a few minutes and still nothing comes to mind. I figure I might as well leave it to luck. I take a quarter and flip it up in the air.

“Heads left, tails right.” I shout.

The coin spins in a graceful arc; I catch it and take a peek. Putting it away, pick up my knapsack and start walking again.

To the left this time, I go. Interesting, at every crossroad I’ve done this…heads every damn time. People say the left is associated with evil. If so, then someone up there is sending me into some bullshit.

Oh well, until then I guess I’ll enjoy the weather. Sunny blue skies, a balmy breeze…it’s a nice day, for now.

Hmm, keep this up and you'll end back up where you started.

Good one, mate.

I never heard this saying. Very interesting. I like the coin flip.

Good to see you back.

Yeah, there's supposed to be an association with evil involving left.  I'm left handed, actually...it's supposed to be God's curse or something like that. :P

From Wikipedia's Left-handedness article:

The left hand symbolized the power to shame society, and was used as a metaphor for misfortune, natural evil, or punishment from the gods.

You never heard of left-handed cigarettes, Kelly?  ;)

Anyway, this was very good Zoo. I'd love to have that freedom.

Thanks, Roy. :) Yeah, it'd be nice to have that freedom...but then again, is it really free? Does fate point us towards the direction we're supposed to go...or do we actually make the choice?

I tend to agree with Forrest Gump on that question. I think it's perhaps it's just a little of both.  ;)
