MAX CPU to AIs - How many if any of you do it?

MAX CPU to AIs - How many if any of you do it?

Morning fellow Commanders,

I'm in the middle of a fantastic war (been away from the game for months), and couldn't be happier.

I've been playing DA on my new machine (Intel Q6600 & EFX 8800 GT) and am absolutely LOVING it!  It runs like a dream..... now that I have WAY more machine than I used to: I've noticed that I can hit the turn button, and STILL zoom in/out and generally look around the map at will w/zero pauses/lag/etc (mid Comps' turn).... it's wonderful.  I can't wait to see how TA looks on this thing.

I wanted to ask all of you: how many of y'all w/fast enough machines/etc, actually give the AIs max CPU???

The comp at stock CPU usage is plenty smart for me.  The highest I set my opponents to is 'Gifted' and that's usually only 2 races out of every 5-7.... rest are one and two levels above normal.  That right there is plenty enough strategy for me.... they play so well and imo, this game has the best AI.

Anyhoot... how many of you guys actually max out the CPU given to the AIs and what are your thoughts/experiences on/with it?

Thank you,

Chr*s

which version of DA should I settle on when I end up acquiring TA???

1.8g, the current version has to me been the most stable and smoothest running of the DA versions. Avoid 1.8e as it had the notorious fleet bug along with numerous other movement bugs possibly all related.

Max CPU in DL was only letting the AI update ships designs twice as often. In DA it was supposed to actually mean more to how the AI performs. As far as how it works? I guess I'd have to turn it off to tell, but my XP3000 seems to do just fine with it.

1.8g hunh.... I appreciate you piping in....

TA is supposed to be out now - I'm going to Frys this week to pick it up!

As for DA, the day I get net... I guess I'll grab 1.8g ONLY if there are zero bugs for it though.

Thanks for piping in,

That there above.I love galciv2 and im completely addicted so I bought the online download from the StarDock site. The Dark Avatar Expansion box.Paid for the box as well as the dl.

Now heres the thing...I got version 1.8e that has the fleet bug.It is sucking the life outta Dark Avatar for me.I went back to StarDock to see if there was a patch or something and I find nothing.I saw the game I down loaded said it was version 1.8g but I got 1.8e I uninstalled and reinstalled to see if I would get 1.8g but again came out with version 1.8e.

Any advice on how to get version 1.8g? I really really need it or DA is over for me and its back to Galciv2 until I can get this newest expansion pack.

This is driving me crazy. Why cant I find vewrsion 1.8g? Anyone out there that can help? Any advice?

I can work around the fleet bug but it drives me crazy and takes more work.

I am a complete galciv fan now no matter what but I really really need that bug fixed.

Any way anyone can point me in the right direction would be hugely appreciated and thank you.

I am actually stuck in the same situation on 1.8e after a reinstall where I had g originally. There is a way to fix it so SDC will reckognize it as needing updated to 1.8g. Look at SoleSoul's reply #1 Here, It explains how to fix the registry to make it work. Hopefully your comfortable messing with the registry. Just back it up first and only change the one value that's needed and you should be fine :) . I actually have to do it myself still.

Edit: I just did it . Took less than five minutes and worked like a charm, I am back to 1.8g :) .

One has to mess around in the registry to make the .g patch "work"???

That sounds ultra shady,

You only have to fix the registry problem if it didn't install right. Most folks don't have an issue.

I also turned this option on the moment it was available, and it doesn't slow down the game the least. Unlike most games of this type there is no waiting time between turns, unless you spam the "next turn" button, but it is still just 5-10 seconds at most.

Regarding that bug, my friend was pretty bitter about it not working, but the solution is actually relatively simple, although I suppose it would be better if they made it automatic.

Thanks for informing me about it, guys. :)

Have any of y'all seen TA in your stores yet? Frys and Best Buy STILL haven't received them apparently...

I'm dying to start a new game, but I want it to be in TA.
