Excellent game

I'm not sure where this belongs, so I'll put it here in the off topic one.  I just started playing GalCiv2 again after a long break from it, and I've never been active on the forums before.  I really just want to congratulate and thank the developers for making such a great game that completely fits everything I've ever wanted in a single player TBS game experience.

I think the reason I'm so ecstatic about it right now, is I'm currently deployed in Iraq, and since I finally figured out how to install it to my laptop, it has sucked hours of my free time, making my time here go by that much quicker.  Unfortunately I dont have an internet connection where I can hook my laptop up to(I work in a secure environment that doesnt allow personal electronics), so I cant get updates.  I tried to install it before I left to update it at home, but it wouldnt install on my vista run laptop off the cds, and of course I blamed Vista because I hate it and gave up.  I just tried it again a week ago by copying the cds to my external hard drive and installing off of that, and it worked beautifully.  So, I have no idea what version I'm running, but I dont really care at this point, I'm hoping to get the most updated version if I can get the new expansion sent out to me here when it comes out.

Anyways, thanks for a great game, I used to play MOO2 like crazy before, dominating the hardest skill level with every possible weird crazy custom race config I could come up with to challenge myself.  I was highly dissappointed with the broken MOO3 that actually got me out of the TBS genre for a while, so never picked up GalCiv1.  But GalCiv2 is totally outstanding.  I'll prolly be around here asking questions and reading peoples strategies and stuff, and maybe do some AARs.

Hello Lord Judge, Welcome to the forums. Sorry to hear about your inability to update. I can understand the reasoning behind not giving access to the internet, though. (We don't want any filthy traitor feeding our secrets to the Drengin, do we?) ;) There is a way to update without an internet connection. We'll need to at least know the game you are playing. Is it Dread Lords, or Dark Avatar? The version really isn't important, since we already know that it is out of date.

I'm quite busy right now, so I can't look up the particulars, but basically it involves someone burning a disk with the latest patch, physically mailing it to you, and then you installing it on your laptop. I don't know about giving your addy out on the open forums, so feel free to PM me; or better yet, maybe I can get Stardock involved. Let's give it a try:

HEY STARDOCK! This young man is risking his life over in that sh*thole, and *he* is thanking *you*. How about that? I'm sure that you have a patched up version of DA lying around the office somewhere. How about sending one of our brave soldiers a little care package?

Let's see if that gets a response. Even if it doesn't, there are a lot of good people here on the forums that I'm sure would be glad to take the time to help you out. I would do it myself, but have never attempted this before, and I am afraid I might muck something up. Anyway, good luck over there.
