The Best Capital Ships

The Best Capital Ships

I just picked up the game and decided to work on my skills with TEC. I wanted to raise this topic for discussion; what capital ships do you prefer?

I normally choose the colonial ship first so that I can acquire asteroids and other easy pickins for my empire and gather more resources. Does anybody choose another first? Why?

What I build next changes from time to time, but I prefer the bombardment capital ship, because oh do I love to watch enemy planets engulfed in firestorms. Carriers seem kind of annoying to me, but embargo is a nice skill. If I feel that I need a tough ship to trudge through a hectic war, I usually pick the standard battleship. However, I've never picked the Dunov support capital ship before, though the AI seems to like it quite a bit.

What capital ships do you build in what order? Why?

I guess I'll start off formally,

1. Akkan Battlecruiser - quick acquisition of new colonies and targeting support for a fleet
2. Marza Dreadnought - heavy damage, quickly wipes out enemy colonies
3. Kol Battleship - tough centerpiece for a defense/support fleet

Oh yes indeed it was.  It took a lot of things from Kitkun's thread and Deceiver's thread.  Unfortunately, Scramble Bombers is still around, but at least it isn't as bad as it was before.

Kol: The Kol is a good first ship if you are a good player but it dont have the ability to colonize. The Kol is also a good choise if you are attacking a pirate base =D.(Tactic: If you build it at the begining build a small fleet an go from planet to planet whiping enemys out. Behind the fleet have some Protevs run behind and colonize the planets.)

Akkan: The Akkan is a good ship if you are going to expand quickly. But have in mind: The Akkan is a broadsider and have different wepons on the sides.(Tactic: If your enemy has a Marza the best way to kill it is: Dissable the engines with Ion Bolt and then go in behind it.)

And at last Dunov: The Dunov isnt a good first ship at all, It is a pretty good support ship and can serve as a lifesaver in big battles.(Tactic: Build a pair of Dunovs and make their level on sheild restore go as high as possible, Then send thim into battle. When the other Dunov starts to run out of sheilds use the sheild restore ability with the other (Sinse it cant target itself.)

Hope you use my tactics =)

I like the Advent Rapture capital Ship. When you get to level 6 you can use the Domination ability and convert enemy ships to your own. I just completed a game to test how many ships you could convert and got a fleet size over 6000. I used 16 Rapture capital ships and would go into a battle and convert their entire fleet and destroy what couldn't be converted. I only needed to fleet upgrade enough to be able to create enough initial slots for 16 capital ships (16x50). Then I just began converting enemy ships. This keeps your fleet upkeep costs down.

One word of caution. Create any ships you want before your fleet capacity number goes negative. Once it goes negative then you will not be able to build your own ships. I encountered this when my missionary vessel was destroyed and I couldn't build another because my fleet capacity was -2000. I had to use Domination to convert a Vasari Jarun Navigator to be able to acquire planets.

In the end it was massive domination as I had a fleet 3 times the normal limit of 2000. When you have 16 Rapture capital ships going into a battle it is nonstop clicking from ship to ship converting enemy ships as the cooldown period for Domination is only 60 seconds. One word of caution, disable the other abilities so they don't use antimatter automatically. This will save all the antimatter for Domination.

Please do not necro threads, Rovakag. This thread was more than two years old before your reply; make a new thread if you want, but don't bump this one. The information here is horribly outdated.
