Need some help

Hello all... need some help or advice here... :)

Today, I bought the SkinStudio 6 Pro, and I learned that it need 520mb ram minimum...the hard way.. after I bought it, I never knew that it require that much since "skinstudio 6 free" run well on my system... I assume the pro version will run well too.. my mistake... it can't installed at all...  :( so anyway to work around that... I bought it just to see how the animation side work on this one... and the sub sync...functions..

anyone please.. :)

I'm confused. Did you try to install it or did you just not because of the ram requirement? I have it and it runs fine on my system. I have 256mb ram.

RAM is really cheap now, I'd definitely suggest upgrading to 1GB. You'll notice a large overall improvement with running programs. I couldn't imagine running with 512 let alone 256.  :SURPRISED:

I'd suggest upgrading to the limit your mobo can handle. ;P

Without more info, I don't know why it's not installing, but I can tell you it's not lack of ram.....

opps sorry... Let me try to clearify..I tried installed it but it stopped with a small error window "SkinStudio Setup Error : This product requires at least 512MB Physical Memory, Setup cannot continue"

:) and about the cheap RAM... err money really really tight for me right now.. so that why I asked, if there is anyway to work around it since the free version installed and run okay on this machine.

I feel your pain basj. I have 512 and a fresh install of Vista Sp1 and I get an error when I try to install the free version. I know on my laptop part of my 512 goes to video, but I still have more free then the 256 Xiandi has. I am wondering how its running on 256 when even the specs call for 512. If there is a way to do it... I hope somebody shares the answer. I have been wanting to get into skinning and maybe this new version will help. :)

I'm surprised Vista is running at all with only 512mb ram. :SURPRISED:

I'm surprised Vista is running at all with only 512mb ram.

Especially when it calls for a min. of 1GB and 'should' be 2GB really

I would also suggest more ram basj, money might be tight but in the long run its well worth it and an extra 512 shouldn't 'break the bank'.

I agree the more ram the better. As far as vista goes though, the very minimum that Microsoft claims vista can run on is 800mhz and 512 ram. But thats just for the basic version, which i am running on my laptop. I actually had a 800mhz with 512 when i got Vista and forget it, It just doesn't run. Premium and up the minimum recommended requirements ask for at least a gig of ram. WWW Link But I digress and don't mean to change the subject of this thread but, I am wondering how much ram you got the free version installed with basj, because that was my error to. Yet I seem to know my problem is that i have less then 512 on this machine. But you sound like you installed it on less.

My ram is at 448MB :) hmm guess there is no why out. Time to save some money for new SDRAM, i wonder if it still available in the market nowadays... anybody selling their old SDRAMs? :)

I will see if we can get the installer to handle 448MB as it should work fine with 448MB.

I think its great that the people that design Stardock products are so willing to go out of the way so to speak. I don't say much here on the site but I think the people hear like Neil need some applause. I realized something tonight. I don't know anything about anybody here or where they are from. I looked at basj's profile to discover he was from another country, but only after pricing SDRAM. Yeah its on $50 here but some research of that country from 2000 showed that about 10% of the country made only $100 a month. It made me realize that whats the easiest for me might not be the easiest for anybody outside the my country. Hopefully that has changed over there. But what ever the case, I would like to thank all those that offer help and support here at Wincustomize and to those that develop these wonderful programs.

Per Neil's request, the installer for SkinStudio 6 (both free and Pro) has been updated to only require 256MB of RAM.  Thanks for your feedback!  We apologize for any inconvenience.

Here is the free version shortcut for your convenience:

The plan is to get a whole new computer in a few months. Everything on this computer needs to be upgraded (I got it free from a friend) and it would be cheaper to get a whole new one rather that upgrade it all.

I am wondering how its running on 256 when even the specs call for 512. If there is a way to do it... I hope somebody shares the answer.

I have XP, if that makes a difference, and I cant run much else while SKS is open, but I have not had any problems.

I tried installed it but it stopped with a small error window "SkinStudio Setup Error : This product requires at least 512MB Physical Memory, Setup cannot continue"

I'm pretty new to all this computer stuff but, physical memory and RAM are two completly different things, right?
