Too much middle ground

Played for awhile now but this is my first shot at writing as it happens so please bear with me.

1945-First atomic bomb detonated.

1954-Project Blue Book started after several UFO sightings.

1960-Space exploration begins for humans.

1969-Lunar landing marks mankinds first steps towards landing on other worlds.

1980-First true space station started that is multi-national in orgin.

1999-Just in time for the Begining of a new era deep space probes return pictures of the other planets in our solar              system up close and in color.

2020-Although it explodes after only 10 minutes the Lompoc space built engine proves that building in space is       more cost effective.

2035-Chinese/Russian War begins.

2049-Russia retaliates with massive nuclear strike after Chinese use low yield nuc on the battle field.

2050-Russia wins the war but at great cost of life. Most of China is radioactive for the next 25000 years.

2051-Formation of a world government with a ruling body of one person for each country that is a member.

2052-The new Earth government elects Phoung Tram of Vietnam as the first Speaker of the Human Council.

2065-While exploring the lunar surface, deep caves are detected on the Moon.

2070-After extensive digging a vast series of constructed caverns are found to house strange equipment.

2073-A device of immense power is accidently turned on by a bored tunnel digger.

2075-The device is determined to be an anti-matter generator, capable of bending space.

2126-While it takes over 50 years a propulsion system is devised using the capabilities of the lunar generator.

2130-Using massive bribes and furious debate General Dyno is awarded the contract to build the first Hyper-Driven       exploration space craft.

2136-Despite numerous problems the Earth Coalition takes power and starts a technological push for answers.

2140-Using newly discovered material, a space port is completed in what used to be radioactive Bejing, China.

2142-The Chinese space port speeds up construction of the HSS Kirk in deep Earth orbit.

2145-Medical Doctors develop an age booster that allows most humans to live well over 250 years.

2150-The creation of a Population Control Board becomes a neccesity as world population passes 15 Billion people.

2152-The HSS Kirk is completed amid concern over relocating some people to other planets.

2153-The Population Control Board authorizes constuction of a colony ship before the HSS Kirk can be launched.

2154-The construction of the PCB colony ship Hudson Bay is proving costly in lives and money.

2155-The confistication of the Miners Union ship building facilities by the PCB, leads to widespread rioting.

2156-With the election of a new Planetary Council, the PCB loses much of its power, but maintains control of the space         port and all facilities used for space ship construction.

1/1/2160-The launch of HSS Kirk is celebrated around the world as it embarks on its mission, "To boldly go where no            one has gone before".

1/2/2160-The DSM Jackhammer quietly leaves orbit for the Mars Asteriod field.

1/3/2160-The first 50000 "Volunteered" colonists are placed on-board the PCB Hudson Bay.

1/5/2160-The Hss Kirk reports the discovery of a strange graveyard of ships at the edge of the solar system. None of              the ships are salvageable, however the material they are made of allows the crew to increase the Kirks hull              strength by 4%.

1/6/2160-The DSM Jackhammer arrives at the Mars Asteriod field and begins building the first mining base.

1/8/2160-The DSM Sledge Hammer is launched to little fanfare or notice due to the selection process for colonists on             the PCB Hudson Bay becoming known.  This lottery will make up the remaining 200000 people assigned to be             on the Hudson Bay in addition to the 50000  "Volunteers".

1/14/2160-The Sledge Hammer arrives at the asteriod fields.

1/21/2170-The HSS Kirk relays the discovery of two small worlds near the sun Sauron, that are habitable to mankind.                 Named "Yin" and "Yang" in honor of the twins born to Hao and Betty Meing on the morning of the                  discovery.  Despite her labor pains Betty completed her analysis of the planet qualities giving them a PQ                rating of 7 each. The boy and girl were resting comfortably with their mother as the Captain of the HSS Kirk               made his report to PCB HQ in New Berlin.  

 

So much for the history and first two weeks, more to follow as the game progresses.

Well I don't think the hyper drive matters since it is his story but I would like to point out that the Asteroid field is behind Mars with its own solar orbit and does not belong to Mars.

Side Notes
1)The asteroid field is listed as being a seperate area of space however its proximity to Mars is the reason behind the name.
2)The device found on the moon is not a hyper drive motor but it is used to design an effective hyperdrive engine. The anti-matter generators main purpose appears to be the creation of nano sized black holes with opposing polarities which create massive amounts of usable energy.
3) I used this History in a short story I wrote back in the late 70's for an American Literature Class.



1/28/2160 The PCB Hudson Bay launches from near earth orbit its destination the planet Yin. Although its departure relieves some of the population pressure a second colony ship is ordered built with maximum speed. The construction of the PCB Cheasepeak Bay begins before the Hudson Bay passes Mars orbit.

2/7/2160 The HSS KIRK spots what appears to be a proto star that upon closer inspection turns out to be a worm hole. Passing into the hole the Kirk jumps over 20 parsecs in the blink of an eye. After a period of 48 hours their position is determined and a course is set to return the ship and crew back to a stable exploration area. Having anticipated just such an event allows the crew to continue making observations even though they are unable to communicate their findings to Earth.

2/14/2160 The JackHammer makes an astouding discover while establishing a second mine operation, the remains of a micro-civilization. The civilization is completely extinct but in extremely good shape. Although some people believe the remains should be left untouched, others feel that vast amounts of information regarding miniturized devices and circuits could be obtained by throughly studying the remains. After careful consideration the Earth President decides to allow for complete study of the remains, despite the outrage this causes in some religous sectors. The PCB takes note of these religous people and they become the next "volunteers" for colonization.

Hard to believe how much time this takes to do but it is rather fun...too bad I have to work a full time job. Will add more soon and thanks for the imput, hope you enjoy.

Then if this is from the 70's we can all agree with out argument that Pluto is a true planet as it should be.

Er...what? Even if the whole world got destroyed by nuclear war, the winter would only last a century.

True but some of the harmful effects of the radiation would last a whole lot longer my friend (though I agree I am not sure they would last quite that long)

Sorry been gone for awhile but work before pleasure and all that. It also appears that the story line is in the middle of a drastic change thanks to my wifes accidental? deletion of my game files saved on my hard drive. Thankfully I make a backup tape of my hard drive every couple of days...unfortunatly my last back up was prior to staring this thread. Cest la vie. I will attempt to pick up without too many miscues from where I left off.

The radiation refered to in China is more commonly called residual radiation and is most commonly found in man made structures/debris after a surface detonation of old world style nuclear devices. Cleaning up this debris is a risky business and the debris will still be radioactive for a much longer period than simple ground contamination. In addition any sources of ground water that do not recieve constant replenishment and drainage will hold radiation longer than an area with no ground water.

Final note regarding the Russian-Chinese war it was what is refered to as a "dirty war" in that neither side utilized "clean" bombs but preferred to saturate an area with the more lethal and debilitating dirty warheads. Chinese missles/bombs were generally too inaccurate and/or poorly made to be as effective as the Russian versions.

For the curious Yes I have an extensive military background although I am no longer in the military. This does however explain my sometimes prolonged delays in working on the story so please bear with me. My current employment is diplomatic/military related and nuff said.
