I'll start on it soon. I knew mine was underdetailed. I was basically making mine as a proof-of-concept and wasn't even sure if you guys would like the help. I'll try to have something by the end of the week.
drumin, don't worry too much... any help is welcome... being a modeler myself, only one advice... keep your model enough "modular" for now ( i need it being made of several obj part )... it will help when Canadaman ( who is the Halo God ) will request some change...
Recently, i have make a UNSC super carrier... some huge change was needed on the hull level but due to a modular why of working, these change have ask only a few minutes of work...
By the way, any help is welcome for the Halo mod... specially now that we work again the clock since Danman ( my boss from 7DS ) have request it to be ready for the next 7DS version... same if your model is not perfect, some other people ( by example, me ) can use your model and modify it for the game ( in case of modif, you will have the credit of it anyway ).... just take care of have it error free and in obj format...
The fact is that a lot of ship is ready or almost ready but at the level of orbital structure, almost nothing is made... so your help is welcome... more, since the halo mod is moving to entrnechment, starbase become possible... i have already begin work on the "high charity" starbase but i need a good very low poly forerunner dreadnought keyship for put it inside...
I am vey good at modeling but any help is welcome ( i suck at texturing but i am lucky, i have buy the right tools ) and if you wish, we can work together at some project.... i am so bad at texturing that 80 percent of my texture are simply render of high poly 3D models that apply on a low poly model!!!

By the way, it seem that like you, i am a bad 2D guy for make sketch, so i use poly for it.... detail being added at the end... what really count is the final result...

One more for your pleasure... these render is the one that i have used until now for the texturing of the FFG Aegis fate... http://www.love-from-russia.be/pieces_01.png ... for the curious one, the color node used... i have hundred of greebles ( nurmies ) but i cannot distribute them ( copyright ) but i can distribute renders of them ( derivated work )... and these renders can help a lot for texture low poly models !!!

I am maybe very actif with the 7DS team but i have not sign any "contract" with Danman game... i am a free electron and i make what please me... We have already some race who are like the UNSC ( by example, the TEC, the TCA, ... ) but few Aliens races... and to be honest, i am better at modeling ship with curve that these who are in a block style... by example, some of the new generation model for The Dark fleet...
By the way, if these mod of any other mod have some interest, i have two of my models who have not yet find a owner... the first one is a orbital structure, a missile defense platform ( pic1, pic2 )... and the DSC who was made for the Andromeda mod ( but they have refuse it )... it is a colony capital, with two flack gun ( 8 tubes ), 6 torpedo tube, a nova missile, two laser beam, two rocket pod and hangar bay... was my first model make for sins, not knowing that animation don't work in sins ( normally, for colonize, the back module open the clam and free the front module )... pic3, pic4... first who clain them will be the owner...
By the way, i am happy to help CanadaMan since he have help me in the past... i cannot use XSI and he have hardpoint one of my model and convert it to .mesh ... a good deed is never forget...

Maybe try the same modeling software that i use... it is wings3D... very limited when compare to Blender but it work great for low poly sins model... the software is opensource, only a few mb in size, very fast, easy to use and work on Linux/Windows/Mac... i have begin to use it when i have begin mod for sins some months ago...

Woohoo! The new release of Blender supports direct model texture painting without UV mapping! No more having to mess with Blacksmith (it hates me)!
Remember, i have say that Blender is a great tools... there is always UV but the software create them... with direct painting, seam are not more a problem so UV can be made of 1000 pieces...
By the way, software is like woman... these who please me are not sure to please you:p

Yeah, I was gone for an additional week. A tid bit of good news though: Apparently, CaW is almost at public beta and that means that Blamtroid will be joining us as a full member. For the uninformed, he did most of the earlier models for the mod.
Anyways, We're getting the prowler and supercarrier, Dinoff is coding invasions for the UNSC, Fileosoft is working on the updated frigate, xXx is still working on the MAKO. Gihren did just finish work on the portraits and victory screens so anyone who has the alpha just pm me for them.
