30 minute battle--- lame?

Well, I really do enjoy Sins but one thing really bothers me.  As soon as I a game hits the half hour mark, spamming ships becomes an essential part of the game.  Recently, I played in an FFA and I was the last person alive aside from one other opponent, whom was evenly matched with me in economy and fleet capacity.  So I take the innitiative and attack him at an essential choke point in his empire.  I start attacking the resident planet when his fleet shows up.  I advance on his fleet and an epic battle ensues... and ensues... and ensues...  Basically, I we were both making ships literally faster than they could be destroyed.  Yes, we both had repair cruisers, but I consistently targetted repair and command frigates when they entered the battle against me.  And yes, I attempted to send a second smaller fleet to some of his border worlds to bomb them, but he intercepted them with a new fleet of his own and a SECOND never ending battle started up.  All of our capital ships had been blasted to bits in the first five minute.  The whole time this was happening, I actually had to upgrade my logisitics to accomodate my fleet growth.

This went on for a half hour before the game had mercy on our souls and crashed.  This isn't the first time something like this has happened, and it really damages the game for me.  The easy way to solve the problem is to simply leave all the game settings the same with the exception of resource rate (which could be set to low).  This way, you wouldn't be able to build ships as quickly to reinforce the front.  It would make the game a little bit longer at the beginning, but I think it will actually speed the game up quite a bit in the end as a result of much more decisive battles.  Any other ideas?

I had a similar battle at someones home world. The battle for his home world lasted for more then an hour lol. We were both spamming reinforcements. I started to make tons of shipyards to the point were I could spend all of my income on nothing but ships. Since I had the slightly better econ I finally eventually overwhelmed him.

That's when you should rip into his infrastructure by destroying vital structures. Skip from planet to planet hitting him where it hurts. He will be wailing on your fleet, but the damage you are causing to him is more severe.

Destroying military labs can especially be a critical blow if he's trying to replenish his dying fleet with advanced ships. If he lacks the required number of labs then he cannot build that ship.

Try plaing on low fleet setting.

like diciples?

Disciples do not require military labs. Also, disciples are only good for maybe the first hour of the game. By that point, you better have some heavier more advanced ships.

Steal/transfer antimatter is so super handy once people start filling out with healing-ability cruisers though. Their repair rate gets knocked out much earlier and you get to malice them more often, what is not to like?

This hasn't ever happened to me, the only time a person can produce faster than he loses is early in the game if he has multiple frig factories. That's why, when fighting on his planet, frigate factories are a fairly high priority target (labs might be more important, depending).

What stopped you from waltzing right by his fleet, accepting the casualties, and blowing his space infrastructure to dust?

I realize I wasn't there to witness the game play out, but it seems from the description that the failure was in tactics, not the game. Why were you slugging it out with his fleet to begin with? You have him on heels toes, at his homeworld, and you're replacing your losses. Why aren't you knocking out his capability to produce the ships you're fighting, rather that going after the ships?

Some bombers can make awfully short work out of base structures...

wow it sounds to me like both sides were just spamming kodiaks and hoshikos... if that's what you did then yes the battle will never end...
