I had turned off HBO for my house a while back, after they had finished up the series runs for the shows I was interested in seeing. Knowing that those shows either weren't coming back, or would be off the schedule for a long period, it just wasn't worth paying a subscription fee until something I really wanted to see was going to be on.
Well, it's that time. Time that something well worth watching is airing.
HBO has aired a couple of exclusive series that paired them with Tom Hanks: From the Earth to the Moon, and Band of Brothers. Both of those were excellent, with high production values, attention to detail, enthralling stories and episodes and a level of quality that many other networks (including the big broadcast networks) just can't touch.
The latest Hanks and HBO collaboration is the mini-series event: John Adams, bringing the great man to life on the small screen and giving viewers a great history lesson as they watch. I'm pleased to say that HBO and Hanks have 'done it again' and have given us (the viewers) a great piece of entertainment at the same time.
I wish I could find a clip to embed here for readers to see, but the best I've come up with so far is just the link to HBO's web site for the series. That would be here.
The first two episodes aired tonite and will repeat for customers that get HBO's suite of channels. Also possibly available via HBO on demand on cable systems such as Comcast. If you get HBO or can get HBO, this one would be worth the monthly subscription fee by itself. It is that good.
Even if you don't get HBO, I highly recommend checking out the Teaching John Adams link on the website (see link above). There are teacher and student guides available for downloading there that can be used to help provide more information on John Adams to students.
