PM2004 - The Political Machine 1.02 update available

Good evening. The official 1.02 patch is now available for download from Ubisoft (for CD orders) or via Stardock Central if you preordered or have TotalGaming.net from Stardock. If you have previously had Safedisc issues and contacted [email protected] for those, please followup on those again now.

This update will go over 1.01 or the 1.0 retail CD release.

So, are those of us who bought the retail cd out in the cold for patch 1.02 if we don't have total gaming? This patch is not on the downloads here at this sight-just 1.01. If so, I can promise this will be the first and final product I buy from either stardock or ubisoft.

iangw1969, the full update for the retail CD is up on Ubisoft's pages. Which, unfortunately, seem to be down for maintenance at an inopportune time. Visit https://www.politicalmachine.com/download_update.asp to get sent an email with the link for when they are back up.

As Ubisoft's webpages are still "undergoing maintenance", I have changed the link emailed out to point to a copy of 1.02 on our servers. Visit https://www.politicalmachine.com/download_update.asp to get sent out the link for the moment.

Linclon's money stat was 14. . on his stats page, but when I played with him he starts the first campaign with only 500k, and he didn't seem to have a lot of money as a VP. I was looking for help to try and finally beat FDR, and Lincoln surprisingly was no help at all. With this bug fixed, does anyone know how much money he'll have?

I'm also worried about the tinkering with the endorsements. It was kind of a race as to who would get more of them. It now sounds like it might be you take yours and I'll take mine, and there'd be no reward to getting them quickly before your opponant. Anyway, its a fun game so the thought of changing it a bit scares me. If anyone's played it with the new patch, are there any thoughts on whether its more or less fun to play?

Ubisoft's pages are back up, so the emails going out now will link to their server.

I find that the new patch makes the game in fact worse to play. If Ubisoft really wanted to make an endorsement easyer to get by someone, they should not have raised the amount of political capital need, but instead should of just lowered the ones that would be easyer for each side to get.

I actually approve of the update.

And lowering the amount of capital for the same-side (for lack of a better term) endorsements would do exactly the same thing as raising the capital required to earn opposition endorsements.

I've had a couple of emails with CariElf (thank you for your time in attempting to fix my problem). I found that when I upgraded to 1.02 my computer was no longer able to display the map within the game. Everything in the game still worked, and I could click on where the map should be and get the correct response, I just couldn't see it. Whatever had last appeared where the map should be remained there after it should have went away. CariElf suggested that the problem was most likely an out of date video driver. The problem is, as far as I know, I have the most up-to-date video driver available. I have an ATI Mobility M4 on my Gateway laptop and downloaded the most version from Gateway. It did not fix the problem.

As suggested, I went to OmegaDrivers.net because I was told they have updated ATI Mobility drivers, but their site clearly states that their drivers are for M6 and above.

Does anybody know of a fix for this bug OR does anybody know where I can get and updated driver for an ATI Mobility M4 on a Gateway 9500 laptop? I would really appreciate any assistance that anyone could offer.

Thanks for the help.

When I first got the game, I had the problem with the initialization failure. I downloaded the patch and no I can start the game, but at the screens, there are no text on the buttons so I can't see what to do or any other the candidates names and such. It's quite a tease...I'm dying to play this game!!!

Andrew Cody,

If you have an Intel integrated video card, either the 82815 or the 82810E, this is a known issue. Unfortunately, the drivers for those chipsets were created before DirectX 9 came out, so they don't support all the features of DirectX 9. Intel has informed us that they will not be updating these drivers again. If you have another type of video card and can find updated drivers, that may solve the problem.

mtmdem,

Please run dxdiag and send the report to me at Link along with the debug.err from the directory where political machine is installed. Please describe the problem in the e-mail as I get a lot of e-mail and if I have to e-mail you to ask what I'm supposed to be helping you with, it'll take longer to solve your problem.

Here are instructions for running dxdiag in case you need them:

1) Click on your windows start button
2) Click on Run
3) type the word dxdiag in the dialog box and click OK.
4) Allow it to check to see if your drivers are digitally signed, let it run its tests
5) Click Save all information and save the file somewhere you'll be able to find it.

I have to say, before the update the game bored me because no matter the level I was playing I was winning in a landslide. Now, it is much more challenging, but I still am disappointed at the election night, needs to be a more exciting feature!

Well I say McCain is in serious trouble now, even GOP is not yet warming him up.But don’t worry it’s still an early race then. You never know a senior citizen might have the momentum to smoke the competition between the two; but then again I find this unlikely. The poll that I saw in PollClash, so far, is accurate. And it seems that the recent WSJ/NBC poll coincides with what pollcalash have, Now that the candidates are set for the US Presidential Election, Barack Obama and John McCain are beginning to set the tone for their campaign. Looking at their most recent speeches, what do you think about what you hear?
