Ugh, I would try to find an emoticon or graphic depicting someone puking to insert here and really show how bad the most recent episode of SNL (Saturday Night Live) was, but it's just not worth the effort.
Funny that as I watched through the DVR'd copy of the show on my HTPC, I see a nice little advertisement/informative blurb from NBC that tells viewers that if they want they can go to NBC.com and grab clips to feature on their blogs. Really? If there was something of value on the show, maybe it would be worth it, but given the current level of humor (or lack there of) on the show I just don't see it being worth it here.
My quick thoughts:
The opening bit with the dig on Eliott Spitzer was just plain bad. Jonah Hill's opening monologue was lame...
The digital short was completely forgettable.
The weekend update segment was ok at times, almost funniest with Amy Poehler's screw up when she was trying to crack the joke about freebasing Brita filters. Actually, not quite true, as the 'Really?' bit and banter between Seth Myers and Amy Poehler was pretty good. Tracey Morgan's rant about Obama was funny at the very end, making light of the 'Bitch is the new Black' (with the line 'Bitch might be the new Black, but Black is the new President, Bitch!') that came from Tiny Fey a few weeks ago.
Outside of that, not so much humor to be found. Maybe the bit with Jonah Hill telling Andy Samberg that he (Hill) was in a relationship with Samberg's father.
Shadows of it's former glory really. And yet... I see a few comments from others saying the show was great, hilarious, very funny and I'm left to wonder just what is wrong with those people as a string of others with similar thoughts as mine start speaking up and saying they too just don't get the humor any more.
I know SNL goes through cycles and eventually it'll likely get retooled and come back with a new cast and crew, new writers, etc. When it does, and it finally finds it's new groove, perhaps it'll be worth watching. If it continues as it's going though, I'm not sure there'll be any viewers left willing to give it a chance.
