Can't connect to ICO - "Disconnected from Ironclad Online"

I've successfully played multiplayer via Hamachi and LAN direct connections. My ISP doesn't block any traffic. However, in-game when I try to connect to Ironclad Online, after I enter my username and password, it waits awhile with the login button grayed out, then says, "Disconnected from Ironclad Online" with no further explanation. It's done this for 2 days now. What gives? How can I troubleshoot this?

I'm on a DSL connection in Hong Kong, behind a firewall (router, standalone device, custom openwrt), I've no trouble playing LAN games with friends in the U.S., and there are no connection problems to the Sins or Stardock web sites. No connection problems to other sites either. Windows firewall is disabled. I'm forwarding traffic on port 6112 to my machine.

I'm an engineer with a lot of networking experience so technical details are more than welcome! Please, no "have you tried turning it on and off again" advice. ^_^

You shouldn't have any trouble following the instructions in my latest (Feb 14th/08) guide called "Networking and SINS" which contains all necessary SINS-related networking info. :)

Find the link at the bottom of the "Technical FAQ" stickied in the "Technical" forum.

the_Monk, thanks for the excellent guide. They're here for any future searchers:

Unfortunately that didn't help. I stopped being lazy. Looks like a routing problem between my ISP and Stardock.

> netstat -a | grep 6000

TCP mybox:1704 38.98.152.153:6000 SYN_SENT

> tracert 38.98.152.153
Destination host unreachable.

As I said, I'm in Hong Kong, and normally there's no problem connecting to the U.S. or Canada. I tried a traceroute from a U.S. server and things are fine from there:

> traceroute 38.98.152.153

...
13 vl3504.na01.b015487-0.dtw03.atlas.cogentco.com (38.20.36.214) 15.895 ms 15.838 ms 15.317 ms
14 stardock-corporation.demarc.cogentco.com (38.99.219.166) 15.598 ms !A * 15.573 ms !A

Now I get to dig through support levels at my ISP. =(

At least the ICO connection problem is "just me"!

I do use peerguardian, and that was the problem. Thanks Outbackozzie2!

p.s. peerguardian works so well I had forgotten it was sitting there. I feel daft!

heheh I felt the same when I found out - someone should make a peerguardian sticky

My guide does say "you may need to disable all other (besides the Windows Firewall) security/firewall software while playing SINS". :) I think peerguardian falls under "security/firewall software". People just need to read more....hehe

As a matter of fact me and my buddy get the exact same response från ICO. It's allowed in Windows FW, all and any port connected to Sins is routed to my gaming-rig, but I still can't host/join a game on ICO.

As velshin  said, works wonderful over Hamachi, and that's ok, but it would be nice to play against the community.

I'm located in sweden on a 100/100Mbit fiber optic connection with no blocks or restrains from my ISP, and everything else works like a charm.

What does a "trace" from your PC to ICO show?

ie.

c:\tracert 38.98.152.153

Try a "trace" right after you get "Disconnected from Ironclad"  and post back the results please.

thanks,

Velshin and others having this problem, you are not alone! If you look further down the "Multiplayer" Forums you will see my Forum Posted.Unfortunetly i have never been able to play on ICO since i bought the game last month. The error i get when trying to create an account reads: "Network Error, Disconnected from Ironclad Online." and i have not been able to get any further. I have not been able to try it lately due to the recent Hurricane Ike, but I have my PC up and running again and am going to try some more toubleshooting so i will be able to play ICO online.

Here is the link if you cant find my forum post: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/323517

* I hope this link helps some of you, unfortunetly it has been unsuccessful for me so far.*

I too have the same issues. I have tried the trace thingm and I ping ICO perfectly. I havemy router demilierized, and all firewalls off. It is either fact that ICO has been down as I am reading or something wrong with the game it's self.

right now the game itself is having problems,   the game is inaccesible becuase the server is down nobody, configured ports or not, can enter right now

so just wait a lil til the server gets back up (timeframe differs evertime)

you need ports open in order to "host" your own games hosting means setting up your own game and waiting for others to join,  without configured ports "or alloy" you cant host,    if your ports arent configured properly you can still join any game hosted by others tough

so no, you do not need your ports configured to play online,  you only need them if you want to make your own games

if the game says you are disconnected from ICO the problems lies with ICO,  there have been alot of problems with the server latly,  so dont worry about that   (or do.. actualy.. it should've been by fixed now)

Well and how long shall it take that that server  gets back up again? It's now the first of the new year and I tried it now for nearly about two weeks and still get the same bullshitanswer "Network Error, Disconnected from Ironclad Online."

So are we talking about months? years? :-)

Edit: Found now the solution. You need to update Sins to version 1.12 via Impulse and then it works. But it's stupid of the game makers not to write something like "Make sure you got latest version" to the error message. And actually I thought 1.12 was not yet available for a german version...

I had this issue once before, I solved by updating the game, worked for a few weeks now it is back and there are no more updates to maricale fix me.
