First strike?

I'm not sure if this should go in general or here, so sorry if this isn't right. What does the acrean special ability mean that you get first strike? I thought I knew, but then i noticed sometimes my battleships would kill the enemy fleet in 1 volley, but the enemy still would get 1 round of shots back. Along these same lines, the aggressive manipulation module says it gives you 20% bonus attack on first round if you attack, or at least along those lines. Does this mean if an enemy fleet attacks you it does no good?

First strike only triggers when you attack.

You shoot first, deal damage, then whatever is left fires back. Thats probably why you still took some damage.

I believe it is also only on the first volley. You dont get first strike attacks each round of combat, just the very first round.

First Strike is more of an ambush attack. As Piznit said, it only occurs when you initiate combat and only on the first volley. You send a volley in, if there are survivors, then combat proceeds as normal (both side send a volley at each other).

I haven't played with the AM module to know if it works when you are attacked. If the description is as you typed it, then that module would also only work if you initiated combat....making that first strike 'ambush attack' 20% better :)
