XP SP3 RC2

For anyone interested.  Two days ago I installed XP SP3 RC2.  This if the final RC before public release.  I have found it to be very stable and have noticed no performance degradation.  Actually I have found no major changes yet.  I did have to restart twice to get the installation to finish properly.

Please, for anyone wanting to upgrade to SP3 RC2, or the final release for that matter be advised that any previous SP3  release installation must be removed before installation.  In some cases Windows XP SP3 Release Candidate 2.exe script must be run before installation to remove a Kb that could interfere with installation.

One other item that might be of interest to those of you who use TGT StyleXP on other machines to check out msstyles.  SP3 will break your installation and you will not be able to use it, as TGT has no update available to use with this version of Windows.

The good the bad the ugly.

the article writer said it best ,SP3 is anticilmatic & i totally agree with that comment,& i for the life of me can't see the point of even installing it since it's nothing more than a compilation of already available updates, apart from a couple of admin features & the extra menu bit that gives a bit more detail,& what's with no IE8 for xp.

WWW Link

PS: I also have the pdf download of what the SP3 contains which is why i consider SP3 a waste of time unless your an admin,i thought it would contain some choice changes like SP2 did (:( maybe if i sign the "save xp petition" it might help

xscorpx,

I think I really have to agree wih you. Since I have the option to uninstall this RC, I believe I'll do just that. Since I did this post, I have found that the update made my scanner useless. And as it's an older model, Canon won't be updating drivers. If I wanted to start buying hardware I'd have changed to Vista. Thanks for the links. I'll chick them out.
