'Project Offset' Creators Bought By Intel

Intel buys another engine firm; 'Project Offset' still "going strong."

Offset Software has been purchased by hardware technology behemoth Intel for an undisclosed sum. The official statement from the creators of nothing so far, aside from a glorious tech demo, named Project Offset, have stated via their website that the project is still “going strong” and that the firm is truly “excited about things to come."

Currently, Offset Software is an unheard company for many but their technology page can offer a bit more insight into the young firm. Their biggest project thus far is the engine used in Project Offset, dubbed Offset Engine. The technology has already been licensed by Red 5 Studios for a still unannounced MMO.

“The Offset Engine is a complete platform for creating next generation games. Every aspect of the engine is designed around the goal of reducing development time and cost, while empowering designers and artists with the tools they need to create spectacular visual effects and immersive environments.”

Intel has not detailed any justification for the purchase yet and Offset Software did not go into much detail either. As it stands now, Intel may just be trying to flesh-out their middleware offerings, adding Offset Engine to their recently purchased Havok technologies. Or they could possibly be trying to enter the gaming sector on a developer level. Time will tell.
