Alone and Thinking

Sometimes it’s good to be alone, whether you like it or not.  It gives you a chance to think, to commune with your own inner voice.  You can do a lot of thinking, you know?  Whatever little or big problems are on your mind, you can just go off to a little secluded place and mull it over.

People are nice, well some people are nice- most are blithering idiots and/or total jackasses, but those ones you tolerate on a day to day basis aren’t so bad.  I reckon they end up growing on you.  Still, even with those handful of people that you don’t want to choke until they turn blue…it’s good to get away once in awhile.

Just sit down, space out and let the old mind wander through the vast space that is contained between your ears.  Dive deep in to that metaphysical space and start digging and rooting around.  Admittedly that can be a scary place for some…who knows what freaky shit you got rolling around in there…but hey, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger- well, usually.  Either way it isn’t so bad to get inside your own head, you’re the only one who can figure out exactly what makes you tick.

Just search around in that noggin of yours and there’s no telling what you’ll find.  Memories, fears, worries, hallucinations, gremlins…it’s a total shitstorm  of a place in there…and the fun part is that it’s all subjective.  You have no idea what’s going on in somebody else’s mind and they can’t peer into yours…unless you’ve become way too predictable or they’re psychic or something.

Anyway, back to my point.  It’s good to be alone to think.  I find it quite enlightening when I can get a moment’s peace to figure out exactly where I’m headed, what’s really on my mind, and figure out a way to fix it or perhaps find something fun to do.  The noise of the world has a way of distracting you and making you crazy.  Take a few moments to collect yourself, you’ll find that things are easier when you’re aware of what’s really going on inside.

And hey, maybe you can write it all down and share it with people. ;)

My life is usually so LOUD that when I have a moment of peace and quiet, I don't know what to do.  Sometimes I try to meditate and then I realize how undisciplined my mind is.  You know what they say, control your thoughts or they control you.  I have to agree with Pascal that most of life's evils come from being unable to sit alone in a room... or something like that.

I think that's why I've always liked things like motorcycles and bicycles and taking long walks-slash-hikes and running -they're things one usually does alone. Ugh, and I DO likes to get away from people you know?

-a good write, Zoo!

Then you should work on discipling it.  :)  Just get lost in your own head once in awhile, you'll get the hand of it.

Thanks for readin'. :)

Good article, Zoo.

I, too, think being alone is great. When I lived in Ohio I would have an hour commute to work and the alone time was so therapeutic.

And hey, maybe you can write it all down and share it with people.

I would be interested in reading all of those blogs.

Peace and quiet. Lordy lordy, how I loooooong for it.

But I figure I'll have plenty of it when I'm dead. :p

Thanks. :)  Yeah, sometimes I hit the mark when I write. :P

Heh, I'm getting good with writing thoughts down...at least I'm experimenting with it.  I call them "blurbs."

Unless those angels never shut the hell up. ;)

I try to find at least 10-15 minutes if not more just to spend regrouping.  I usually get more with a touch of mild insomnia....unless people start yelling or running around in the ol' dorm. :(

My wife and I are loners by nature. We both appreciate the need for time spend in solitary activity and reflection. It is absolutely essential for my mental well being AND for my creativity. I find I often have the best song or writing ideas when I am by myself.

Good post, mate.

Yep, that's what I've always thought.  Seclusion is never a bad thing(well, unless you live your entire life like that) in fact, I'd say it's like taking vitamins for your mind.  Flushes out all the crap that's drilled into your head by other people and you can finally be yourself.

Thanks, mate. :)

I agree... For me, the best analogy that works is being by myself is liking giving my mind a bath, washing away all the crap everyone else wants you to wear and freshening up my subconcious.

Hahaha, story of my life...

I liked this article, Zoo. You're a really good writer. :)

I actually went for a walk yesterday to clear my head and do some thinking of my own. Thinking is nice, but it's hard work. ;)

We can all use a good brainwashing...well, as long as we do it to ourselves. :D
