Registration Issue Frustrations

Registration Issue Frustrations

I bought my copy of Sin from Amazon, got it today and am trying to register the game to get the patches.

Of course I can't.  Doing a search I'm not the only retail customer to experience this problem. Its very very frustrating because its 3pm on Friday and I just sent an email to [email protected]   My hopes of getting a reply today or even this weekend is slim to none I think and and I'm just ... pissed.

I'm glad stardock has a no DRM policy on its CD's and such but screwing your retail customers seems a very very bad way to my relationship with stardock.

Found it! Aparently the filters are not to be triffled with even with allowable rules.

Either way expect a responce very shortly. Sorry for the delay!

Alright got a response today and I am now able to update my game and make an online account for Sins. I still get an error message when I open StarDock Central that it has failed to validate my registration info, yet Stardock Central also allows me to update the game anyway. So I assume that I can just ignore this message and continue to update and play Sins online?

Yes it will still work under thoes conditions. In the mean time try this to clear the error message.

Stardock Central > Tools > Settings > Internet > Refresh XML data.

After that restart Stardock Central.

I tried Refrshing the XML data but I'm still getting the message. As long as it is going to continue to allow me to update and play online though it's not really a concern. I just wanted to make sure that on your end you wouldn't think that my registration was invalid and shut it off at some point in the future.

Course not however I would prefer it work for you. As a test try out Impulse for the download and running of the software.

You can find it here: http://www.impulsedriven.com/about.asp

I would be interested to know if you still have the same problem. This is totally optional and if you don't want to mess with it I understand.

been a day or so now no reply to ticket yet
was hoping to own some friends of mine tonight *sob*

I installed Impulse and while it does still say my registration is invalid in the registration tab, I do not get any error messages that pop up when I load the program. When I tried to update the registration it gave me the error message about e-mail/serial being invlad (ref 204). However the program runs smoother and quicker than Stardock Central, and does not give me any error messages when I attempt to update software, so I'll probably use this system from now on to update. I also find it more user friendly than Stardock Central, but that's just my opinion. Thanks for the link to it though, I like the program.

I just wanted to make a public apology to Seabass and Stardock. I would like to thank Seabass for taking his time and helping me even though I was a jerk.

Sometimes, frustration makes us act very stupid.

Thanks for all of your help!

No worries at all. :)

Thanks much for the kind words there. Please let us know if we can help at all in the future!

As for the error message that pops up saying the game is not registered...

this issue is caused by a erroneous entry in the System Registry.

Open the Registry (XP - Start->Run, Vista - Win Key +R)and drill down to the following folder;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\ComponentManager\Drengin.net\

Look there an see if you have two folders, one called Sin the other Sins. Delete the Sins one, if you find it, leaving the one named Sin.

That should end the 'Failed to validate ' message you get in SDC.

Hi,

I've sent a mail to the support on April 13th for a registration problem and I haven't received any answer yet. I wonder if it is normal or if there could be a problem with gmail addresses.
Thanks!

There was a responce and account correction sent to you on April the 14th at 6pm.

If you didn't get it please check your spam folder.

Either way your accounts were merged. Let us know if you need further help.

I went through the registry and did in fact have a Sin and Sins folder. I deleted the Sins one and the pop-up messages have disappeared from SDC however going into Setting->My Games and clicking to update the serial number still gives me the error that the serial is invalid. I check Impulse and it still lists the registration as invalid. As I said though this did eliminate all the pop-up messages as soon as SDC is opened, and I can still update the game without any error messages. Do you think uninstalling and reinstalling SDC would have an effect?

Hi Seabass,

The mail went to the spam folder and I probably missed it and has been deleted. :/
Could you send me it again if it contains some important information? (I will pay more attention this time!)
But I confirm the problem is solved and I can now access to the patch and bonuses :)

Thank you for you help! It is nice to see a great support these times :)

Cocotteseb - nope if it is working you need nothing more from me. It was just a note saying "fixed it".

GoldElite72 - It is always worth a shot to try the uninstall/reinstall. Check your PM I am verifying your account info.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling StarDock Central and it allowed me to register the game without error messages. I then checked Impulse, and all error messages have disappeared from there as well. Thanks for your help and patience in helping me get through this.

ok FOLKS, I am going to pile on here. The game is fun, but the problem with the UPDATES and the CD KEYS not "matching" is a pile of crap.
I keep getting the CD KEY IS INVALIDE and I don't know how many differnt ways I have tossed that stupid number around. Yes this a store bought version and I see that a vast majority of the problems are comeing from the storwe purchesed versions.

I have sent emails to stardock and all I get back is some snot nosed drivel about user name/password/correct code. I didn't spend $49 for a game that can't be upgraded.

I want help and I want it NOW !!!!!

I'll chime in on this one here... Bought the retail copy from the local Best Buy, however, when registering, it just keeps telling me I have a bad serial number. No response yet from tech support. The serial number is legible and I've checked it time and again. All I ever get from the site when I try to register is:------------------------------------------------Sign Up Error - Invalid Serial NumberThe serial number you have entered does not belong to the email address you have entered. To register this serial number you must use the same email address in which you used to purchase the game.If you do not have the game yet please support our hard work by purchasing the game.Buy Sins of a Solar EmpireIf you believe there is an error with your account please contact [email protected] for further assistance. Please include your serial number with your email but please DO NOT post your serial number on the forums.--------------------------------------------------As this was a retail copy, and not one downloaded from the site, I didn't have a prior registration here that was used for this number. The only thing I can think is that they have issued duplicate serial numbers between their online purchases and retail store purchases. This is extremely frustrating as I have a legitimate purchased copy.

This has happened to me also i tried the serial number in as many ways as anyone could read it but it just gives me the error that you got which i had this happen to me also with my Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords which gets a little annoying when the updates come out and i have to go to a Second Hand Website to get the update.

Since this has worked for so many I will post it here again for you.

Try manually updating the serial number. Do this by going to Stardock Central, Tools > Register Products. In that menu use the tabs on the left side to select the category then in the main window please set the software name. Copy and paste the serial number in the box and hit update to update your serial number in the Stardock Central records. After that you should be all set.

There isn't a need to demanding or insulting. We will work with you for as long as it takes so you can fully use the product you paid for.
