who's chasing vasari?

who's chasing vasari?

Despite great economy of TEC and great strikecraft of Advent, Vasari still remain my favourite race in this wonderful game. They just have this unique elite feel and phase stabilizers making the game so much more comfortable to play... Anyway, there's one thing that bugs me about them.

I enjoyed their story a lot (after I actually read the manual after all those days of playing...) but there's one thing i'm failing to understand.

The guys who destroyed Vasari empire and are still chasing them, who are they? I doubt it's actually Advent, they don't seem strong enough to do what happened to Vasari...

Or maybe there's a fourth race planned for this game, a probable expansion pack material? Is there somewhere more reading material on the world except what we have in our manuals? I really like this universe and would enjoy learning more lore of it. Especially about those guys who killed Vasari empire.

No BG reference here, Boo would not like it:)

I think it's Omnius and Erasmus from the Dune Prequels.

Whatever it is I'd have to stack a claim to it being robotic or that it's a sentient being that sends its robotic army to chase the Vasari. Kinda something like they don't care if the robots win just keep the Vas busy so they can't regroup and return.

This game needs a story or at least the Galaxy Forge needs an ability that players could make story driven maps like they could in WCIII.

Great game by the way. I'm playing a 2 player game as the TEC against the Vas and about 8 pirate planets and I have my hands full:) I have my little corner of the solar system set up I just need to figure out where I'm heading.

See... the vasari were conquering most of the galaxy when suddenly their home planet went silent... then other planets... they sent fleets and nothing was heard... they recalled their ENTIRE fleet from the ENTIRE galaxy and sent it to the last planet to be lost... ONE ship returned... falling apart, with the crew insane... So a SINGLE COLONY packed up and made a run for it (treason?)... and they have been running since... Supposedly all the others are gone.
They also did not have access to ALL the technology of their race.. only to the common stuff... And a lot of the population on their planets are the slaves living on the surface, they live in orbit, with much MUCH Smaller populations.

Why did the advant take so long? because they are few... the advant are the descendants of a single planet out of MANY... humanity colonized a large swath of space before they exiled the ancestors of the advant... first they were trying to survive... Also the unity was probably not as well formed at first...

Through their collective thought, cybernetic enhancements, and drug usage (beneficial kinds) they have built themselves up technologically to the power house that they are today.

It will make no sense for the ancient enemy to be fought by a united front... the best I can think of is that the humans and advant start running too... and continue to fight while running. Maybe come across other species and have them run too...

Also the whole thing is set many MANY years after the initial engagement... when first encountered the vasari swept through the human worlds unchecked, conquering all in their path. Only many years later did the remnants started putting up a worthwhile fight.

Im thinking its something along the lines of the Seraphim from Supreme Commander:

"According to the intro movie, an experimental mobile weapon's lab activated something (looked like a phase gate) 10,000 years ago. So the Vasari have been running for almost ten centuries.

It's probably that this race is either a civilization that exists within phase space, or exits on the other side of the galaxy, or universe. It seems like to me, that since the Vasari have had no contact with the enemy other than to drive them insane, that they aren't your typical race."

The Seraphim lived only in the "Quantum Realm", essentially a parallel universe. QAI a supercomputer, made with Seraphim tech, went rogue and caused a tear in the fabric of the universe to let them through.

They originally had a single colonized world in our universe but this was either destroyed by a plague brought by one of the races in the game, or a xenocidal commander nuking the capitol.

This caused this seemingly peaceful race to declare war on everything in our universe, which resulted in the "Forged Alliance", expansion; this game focussed on the war between the three races from the orignal game, and the Seraphim.

The Seraphim were supposed to be unbelievably powerful, almost immediately crippling all three races; this included destroying Earth and killing the president but in game, of course, they were a balanced race.

Does that sound possible then ?

The Vasari found a race with whom they hadn't previously made contact and decided they were'nt worth enslaving, subsequently destroying them; when they activated their "experimental mobile weapons lab", they created a rift to the alternate universe in which that race exists.

A huge armada launched by this race went on to destroy/capture all of the Vasari planets, as they are indestructable in cutscenes and backstory.

The expansion pack for Sins will force the original races into an alliance against the new race, probably because they blow up a planet when powerful members of the TEC are there.

Check maths.

I'm not sure we'll ever see them, they exist almost purely as the plot justification for the Vasari race. The background fluff has no relevance to the game at all.

However; if a background explenation for everything does exist...

It's the same race that left all the phase inhibiters and scattered artifacts everywhere. Think like the Shivans from Freespace 2.

I've already said this. It's there wives. But I'VE GOT A NEW THEORY!!!! The female half the species entered in the Red rage. (he he Blood Angels pun.)And never went back to normal. Thus hunting there male counterparts to the ends of the universe to nag them to death.

Well, I suspect that if they add a race it will be the enemy of the Vasari but heres the typical strategy game formula that this game has as well, but its a formula that works: you have 3 or 4 different types of factions: the econmy driven faction (TEC) The hit-and-run faction (Advent) and the technology based faction (Vasari, though you could say Advent and then that would make this slot open which would be the enemies of the Vasari) then you have the faction with units that take forever to build but when they are made they kick everyone elses units all over the place and will eat entire armies for a tiny early morning snack (unkown race). So according to that formula the most likely is that the unknown race if created will be an uber race that has stupidly powerful units but it just takes a while. Although the new race, if added, could be one of the other faction games have the unique faction, its the one that is almost completely different then the others in at least one way, but then thats sort of a sub-faction that tends to fall either under the unit spamming faction that relies on sheer numbers of weak units or the stupidly powerful faction. Anywho, thats my 2 cents. Sorry if this is like huge wall of text :P

Dread Lords.

I would love to see a tie-in with Galactic Civilizations here.

I read some where ingame that the vasari are running form a race of there own creation.

OK, kramer222, here is my take on what the Vasari are running from. To understand what they are running from you you just have to look at the into movie. In the intro, the Vasri are work at a "experimental phase lab". The project may of been, any thing form faster phase jumps, to allowing fighters to jump, or a power source form phase it self. What ever it, there was an run away chain reaction in which it produced a energy wave that destroys everthing it meets it. That is why the expansion rate was higher then thaty of the Dark Fleet, as the enegy wave destroyes every thing. When they jumped the Dark Fleet in to destroy there new "enemy" the wave destroyed all but one ship. Bullet can stop troops, but not a nuke. And just like a nuke there is radiation, that can effect the mine. This is why the crew was so "mad with fear". So what they are running from, is run away "nuke" of there there own making.

Everyone is assuming it's a race of something chasing them down, but consider how long they've been chasing. What race in their right mind would ceaselessly chase after a group of terrorized survivors for 10,000 years? Machines maybe, but why would they scare the darkfleet survivors into psychosis? My guess is that it's not so much a race as it is a force. Say.. the collapsing edge of the universe? Maybe a powerful destructive shockwave expanding into infinity? A bubble of alternate time? An expanding tear in the fabric of reality? Then again, maybe their nanite tech got out of control and is devouring everything in the universe.

That was what I am saying Khyron Shia, but it is with phase space or something like that

Sorry, didn't see your post until after I posted, but yeah, same idea. No alien race has the time on their hands to spend 10,000 years chasing a ragtag band of ships for no good reason.

It ok, (to add to what you siad) or the speed, at which it can win and keep on moving.

I'm hoping for some sort of organic species like the Tyranids, purely for the fact that they would make some awesome ship models and I'd like to see a huge fleet of living ships ingame.

Eh wouldnt someone notice any one of the above interstellar phenomena occuring? Giant hole in space, the destruction of the universe,or a super energy blast? No no read teh manuel they mention SOMETHING chasing them. It's one of there ships that mentions something about it.

Another version I was thinking of was the that new race isn't tied to the "chasing" race but rather just a new one in lore not yet presented. But maybe the thing that is chasing the Vasari becomes a game mechanic that players have to deal with in-game. Like how the pirates are used. I don't mean implemented like the priates I just mean a separate faction/problem that has appeared and is now dogging everyone. I never played Galactic Cilivations but isn't that how one of the races were introduced/added? A non-playable race that was immensely powerful that was game AI controlled?

For all we know that "chasing" race isn't a race but some sort of natural force (someone else mentioned that as well and I like that theory) that is moving through the galaxy/universe.

I also like the theory that it is something the Vasari did themselves. That is maybe unleashed or opened up. I was thinking something along the lines of what was accidently opened up or gained access to in the movie Event Horizon. That also made Sam Neil's character insane.

Just a thought(s). ;)

you know what... i would understand if a race wiped out the vasari and chased them... i'd understand how only one ship escaped from the entire dark fleet...

But why was the ENTIRE crew insane? Massive carnage is unhinging... but the entire crew? every last person on board?

No, it has to be some (super)natural like force or a phenomenon... either there is a spatial collapse or whatever like people said. Or it is some very VERY alien species living in subspace which can directly affect the mind.

What scares me is that, like the matrix, you get a good creepy pitch and then all of us come to such wonderful creative conclusions. When the real story might be retarded when revealed (think the matrix).
It would be a huge disappointment if it was just another race, with uber slow to build and expensive but uber powerful ships. And they can suddenly fight them, and the reason they all went mad in that ship is cause they were really frightened at seeing the whole fleet blown up and it was really fear. (the biggest indications is that they said mad with fear... or it could be that this is what the vasari THROUGHT cause they had no way to tell their brain has been degraded by reality fracturing of a subspace cascade).
