Possible Long-term semi-rp Match Ideas thread

Basically I was quite unimpressed with the lack of single-player storyline and was wondering if any-one would be interested in a long-term RP-match, basically taking the small amount of lore and playing it out to see who wins.

I'm still contemplating the specifics but for sure you'd have 4 teams (Advent, Vasari, TEC and The Unknown) and as I see it at the moment, 5 star-systems (very much up to debate). Starting with 4 actual players with and few defensive-easy ai and replacing ai with other players as the races expand to more planet. I'd definitely have multiple person teams as it would most likely provide a more balanced and even skill-standard overall. It would also help in several RP perspectives, if you turn off fixed-teams then it can make the race-leaders take into consideration a planet's views on how their resources and fleets should be used. It would allow planets to rebel against the rest of their race and help create interesting and diverse situations. I would however enforce reasonable rules on the changing of teams to keep it a good RP as well as a good fight.

On the RP side of things there shan't be too many rules, just at least one post before each match (probably weekly) and before any large none-covert operations are taken out. The people making the RP posts don't even have to be the same people in the matches, just so long as they take appropriate and realistic action. The only team/person (undecided) exempt from making these posts would be the unknown, who will only start posting once contact has been made.

There are lots of specifics that I think it would be best to get different opinions on (such as the time of each weekly match, the date and much more).

When we get mod tool and I get some time, I wanna make an RP mod that will allow players the ability to play with and against their friends in an RP world that rewards story integration, not just combat, economy, etc. I always RP my RTS games even in MP and I've always wanted the ability to mod my games to such specs, but most RTS's dont promote mods. I say, kudos to the devs and bring on the mod tools!

I've been looking into setting up a sort of roleplaying galactic conquest series that involves not so much as team but multiple empires that can ally themselves as they please. I'm wondering if it'd be ultimately possible to build Home System Maps where a particular player is already fairly well built (as to make it harder to take over)

I would possibly be interested in this. Sounds fun if you can play it in a realistic kinda way. Realistic in the sense of good ship composition, fighting for resources and make time for proper player to player diplomacy and cutting deals.

I think theres alot of potential in this idea if you dont go overly strict. I have played RP muds before and I find they have way to many limitations. If you wanted to make it really good you could strike deals, make a factions place a "no go zone" for political reasons or whatever. Theres quite alot to do , but its trying to strike a balance that compliments the game, has good rp value but at the same team is easy for a player to pick up and feels natural.

I know for a fact Im in the minority with the current suggestion Im about to bring up and considering its going to be your first session with this RP well I think you have the map size about right, but you know something, I reckon the HUGE maps would be great for dedicated RPers who want to finish in many sittings, I would even go as far to say make a custom map with the max number of stars and systems, how cool would that be and you know something you could even limit scouting to 4 planets ahead so that finding planets is like a genuine discovery? Feel free to feedback what do you think of those ideas?

You could set a time for just building home systems . Well thought out RP absolutly great, could change the whole way the game plays and you know what, its not harming the game because knowone is shouting for changes and from my experiance RPers are usually slightly older gamers than average and If you give them a set of rules they will go with them.

Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Just to finally say I know there me be some flaws in my idea its just Its my belief that once you get a good group in conjunction with a inventive way of doing things it will be awesome

You know what , just been thinking about the home system idea, even currently you could have something like that if you made it so that yes you still had to build all your home system but before you could get into the home system you had to take down a certain building in another heavily defended system like a broadcast center (Bad example but you get the idea some building which could in terms of rp take down some home system protective grid . Just another idea :) . more I think about this , well I actually think if you have people that will play and can be trusted absolutly to play within a fun orientated set of rp rules then it would be dam awesome

ahh dam :( , Still think it would be a good idea. I havent got the time to try and put something like that together but if anyone does organise it I will try and have the odd game and help when I have time. In my opinion the RP aspect is well worth considering and all I would say to anyone who does run it is, try and make any rp aspects easily translatable into gameplay so its not a chore to learn rp related stuff but more like its making the game more fun. This is where I have found past RP to be a bit lacking in.

Well to get the most people able to play I would suggest allowing multiple players to control one race or else this would basically be 3 people controlling massive empires.If anyone wants to team up with me we could hammer out some rules and regulations. Just pm I have a TS server that we could use also.

Count me in! I have been wanting to do an RP match exactly the way you are describing them.... I envision something along the lines of reality's rules. It would be very fun. Much different from the zerging that takes place in regular matches.

This seems interesting, to say the least. Though, with my time split about 5 different ways right now, it'll be difficult for me to do anything but take a "wait and see" approach. Best of luck.

I have an idea for a Roleplay...

We just get 4 players as TEC , and 4 players as Vasari.

We make a map where TEC has the majority of planets and a hugh econ , but their army is really small. However the Vasari have gain a foothold and have a really hugh fleet.

There is a time limit of 2 hours and the task of the Vasari is to capture one of the 4 players homeworlds. The TEC players task is to defend their galaxy at all costs especially their homeworld for atleast 2 hours.
