MOD: New Oceanic Planet (by Uzii) v1.0

MOD: New Oceanic Planet (by Uzii) v1.0

A simple mod to add the Oceanic Planet

Description
Not quite happy with your feet on dry land? Prefer a planet covered with water? This mod adds a new planet type to the game, the Oceanic Planet. With limited planetary expansion possible, this planet's strength is in orbit. With the possibility to have 5 resource asteroids in orbit, and a high number of Civilian and Tactical slots, these planets are a valued asset in your Empire.

README for installation included.

Additional Information
I am open to suggestions, constructive criticism, and any new planets you'd like to see in the game.

This mod may not be much by itself, but if another modder or mod team want to use it, just give me credit for it and let me know.

I will fix any problem once I've got some feedback. Any issues just post here.

Thanks Uzil, think I got it. This modding stuff gets a bit confusing. I will try and upload your mod to the game a bit later. Looks very nice.

The modding here is a distinctively different than with SE5. With Se5, all mods could coexist in the same game. Here, it seems to be hard coded to the point that its not possible to do that. A shame if thats true, because adding multiple mods to the game to enhance it seems to be a more novel way to keep players engaged and wanting to play for longer periods.

uzii you're a man after my own heart. Now what you need to do is make different shades of oceanic. Some may have more elements than the typical blue water, changing it up a bit. Green, orange/red? Also, if you could somehow add moons, I would loooooove you.

if you played TA(Total Annihilation)you'll know what im talking about how about a full metal world :p and great job on the mod cant wait for next one :CONGRAT:

Great mod! Yes, I'd also be interested in taking a crack at making other planets, :). Tutorials much appreciated, ;). Another planet type could be Primitive, covered almost entirely with forests and with a large population.
Excellent, I'll have to try this, it's exactly the sort of thing I'd like to see added to the game.

Some other types of worlds that would be neat to see:

Forest
Megatropolis (like Coruscant, with lots of orbital traffic)
Radioactive
Galvanic (huge continuous electrical storms)
Barren (like Mars)
Macrobiological (surface covered in a living organism)
white dwarfs

I feel that Mars should not be classified as a "Barren Planet". I think it fits more closely in the category of a Desert Planet. A barren planet, in my mind, would be more similar to Earth's moon. I realize that asteroids in SoaSE sort of take the part of a barren planet, though it would be cool to have more spherical planets as barren worlds. A world that I feel would be interesting would be similar to the toxic planets from Master of Orion II: an atmospherically harsh world with acid rain storms much like our Venus.

@ Grayhorse
I played SE5 for a little while, and just started to mod it before I moved on. Was a great game, but the AI let it down.

@ Wimlore
Interesting idea, not the next update, but possibly a future one.

@ Grave110
I did play TA, and I know exactly what you mean. I used to love the Seven Islands map. I have something similar on the way, check the end of this post.

@ Varelei
Nice idea, once again, I have something like this in the works too.

@ Silverthief
You've hit the nail on the head with 3 of them.

@ mistered86
I like the sound of a Toxic planet, thats a good idea. Look out for that in future updates.

@ Everyone
Seeing as I'm well on my way with the next update, I'll list the planets to be included, and some other things;
- Barren Planet
- Forest World
- Industrial World (Coruscant)
- Colonisable Gas Giants
- More bonuses for planets
- More research areas (linked with new planets)

Once again, thank you all for your input, it is good to see so many of you taking an interest.

Morning Uzil.

I agree with you that the AI for se5 was a big let down. IT just wasnt challenging enough.

However, one distinct advantage was that the mods added by players could be all used in 1 game, without having to access each mod separately. Thats basically what I was trying to say. Dont get me wrong, Im having a blast with Sins. I have even hooked 2 friends into buying it. Showed them my copy, and they picked theirs up the same day from Wallyworld.

Im just hoping Ironclad will allow a bit more latitude so that we can mesh the different mods together, thus getting the benefits from all you excellent modder's.

Your planets rock and I look forward to your new release. But, there is also a mod that another person introduced that added new techs, like small shields for your oribitals, etc. I would love to be able to use his mod with your thus increasing the game experience that much more.

how about a digitized planet, looking kind of like a huge print or something

like a borg planet or something
It can probably serve as an oasis - supplying water to near by desert and volcanic planets. Allowing those to have increased max population and growth.

terraformed like that for some reason a long time ago by some ancient unknown alien civilization ;)

UZI,
Don't worry, I will give you the credit. And thanks. From what I have seen, all your stuff is awesome. I plan on adding more to my games with your spectacular mods.

Here's and idea for you, how about a Dyson sphere? (Startrek). It is a colonizable star. Of course you would need to make the star look like it was made by the Borg, but if you can do an Ocean planet, then you should be able to to a star too.

Thnk about it, and the population would be HUGE. As it is a mechanical sphere that encampasses an entire star.

Keep on modding,

DANMAN

@ 44RS
Mmm... doesn't sound like the kind of thing I'd include, but thanks for the suggestion anyway ;)

@ Joey
That would be extremely hard to incorporate without the final mod tools, but a nice idea nonetheless.

@ DAN
Interesting, but once again, not my style. But it does give me an idea for something else, but that would be a long way off as my 3D designing skills are practically non-existent.

Needless to say; thank you all once again for your feedback.

bummer, it conflicted with max teals. i'm going to stick with max's for now as it is a larger mod that covers more planets

i saw you will be making forest worlds and other new planets that's awesome. fyi, you and max meshing his stars and planets with your work would be spectacular. just a suggestion...

Perhaps this hasn't been made clear enough to the community in general, and is not intentionally aimed at anyone:

DIFFERENT MODS CANNOT BE PLAYED SIMULTANEOUSLY

Replacement packs may work, but for something like this, they probably won't. If Max is up to the challenge he can merge mine and his together, I don't mind. But merging mod takes a lot of time and effort, especially if they are from different authors. For reference, all my changes are located at the *end* of the files I have edited.

wondering whether this will work with your earlier mod as ive combined your planetary bonuses with a textures mod and my own mod for now all three work but will this mod work together with them ??
I've got another mod coming out very soon, that includes the bonuses and oceanic planet, plus new additions to bonuses, and 3 new planets. Wait for that release, then merge them. Look out for it, either today or tomorrow.
Well dear Uzii,
i see forward for more Planets type from yourside.
It's F++++++ awesome, because there are too less Planets types in the Game.
I got some ideas,
how about a hot Jupiter. Also a Gas giant, that is so near his Mother Sun, that his Atmosphere is near to colapse about the heat.

Or a Brown Dwarf, a Gas giant with so great, that he could become a Sun if he get some more mass.

A Crystalin Planet would also be great, a Planet with enourmess Mass.

mmm.. I'll think about them. At present I'm in full flow producing my next update, but I will keep them in mind, thanks.
Beautiful work. With the extra tactical slot (36), could a TEC player put 2 Novaliths in orbit?
i had an idea for some new celestial bodies.

onyx planet - dark glass, population live underground increasing planet health, lack of anything on the planet but onyx reduces culture spread and income

neutron star - dramatically increased gravity well and reduced ship speed

supernova - slightly bigger gravity well, slight damage to ships over time

twin stars - two stars orbiting eachother closely, no statistical difference from regular stars, just for visual effect

just wanted to ask, where is the planet making tutorial you were talking about?
