candidate home states don't show up-coupled with crashes

in the game (campaigns, quickplay, and fantasy) the candidates home states dont show up and when i try to continue and load a game it crashes to the desktop!! I just bought the game and have already dowloaded the patch, please help and also know i am not very computer savvy i know us computer idiots are difficult but i would really appreciate the help

It sounds like you made a custom candidate with a nonalphanumeric character in the name. Delete that candidate file (NOT corecandidates.candidate) and the next time that you start a game, it should be fine. The next time you make a custom candidate, don't use anything except letters or numbers in the candidate name. Version 1.02 will allow you to make custom candidates with other characters in the name.
