Conan getting 11:30 show.... in 2009

Jay Leno going to retire from the Tonight Show, quality will return to the slot on NBC

It is time to rejoice, for the future is going to be glorious. First Craig Kilborn quits the Late Late Show, and now Jay Leno has announced his retirement date, giving Conan O'Brien the 11:30 slot. O'Brien, who was signed to a new 5-year deal, is now committed to NBC until the change over, which means that he won't be moving to CBS or ABC anytime in the near future, which means that when Letterman retires, there is going to be some new blood in Network Talk Shows.

The announcement will be made officially on the Tonight Show today. This is a much better transition than the one that brought Leno and Letterman to their present spots. The future of NBC talk shows looks bright.

Craig Kilborn sucks. O'Brien is funny but slightly disturbing. Letterman is king.

I was hoping Conan would go over to CBS and take over for Letterman. I wonder if the tonight show will be done from NYC now? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

and his replacement would do the LA show? That could work... I mean, the Tonight Show started in NY....

Conan rules for the dry humor, kind of surreal, slightly off-the-wall set, but for straight-up middle-America......I wonder if he'll do as well as Allen, Parr, Carson and Leno?

Now that Clinton has a by-pass in common with Letterman, Bill will succeed him.

I don't care much for Leno. His humor is too bland and predictable. I'm glad Kilborn is gone, though. His fratboy sense of humor was irritating for anyone not him. But I enjoy Conan and Letterman, though. However, I wonder what this will mean for Conan for the long-run. with the earlier timeslot and a much bigger audience.

I think Conan is more in the spirit of Johnny Carson than Jay Leno was. Conan is both likable and self-deprecating, which is a killer combo in a comedian.

And of course, Conan O'Brien has the distinction of working on the Simpsons before getting the talk show too...
