The MOST annoying PreCursor Ship find to date...

So I'm enaged in a two front war against the Altarians and Torians. I've out researched them as far as ship weaponry and armor. All three of us have Dreadnaughts.

I'm playing the "Unwanted SOlicitor" tactic (put a Dreadnaught at every one of their systems' doorstop and destroy everything they make) whern I get the prompt "the Altarians have discovered several PreCursor ships, they are Corvette class." Big whoop right? Yeah, it wasn't that big of a deal except for the fact that there were 99 friggin ships they found!!!!

NINETY-NINE

So of course, it's their turn so they attack ONE of my Dreadnaughts with ALL 99... one at a time. UGH. I went and watched Sportscenter and came back to see the last few snuffed out of exsistence. The most they did damage wise to my Dreadnaught (subsequentaly renamed USS The Man) was 30 points of Damage... he had 100. Oh, and they helped him get to jsut shy of level 6 :D.

Now that was annoying... but it gets better (worse?) The damned Torians had the SAME DAMN EVENT!!!! They discovered 99 Corvettes and did the same crap!!! Sheesh I had enough of this, so I saved and shutdown. I didn't feel like waiting another 30 minutes just so they could feel like they were putting up a good fight. Tonight I will crush them or at the very least blow them back into the stone age.

Just another little story for you, the people.

Dreadnaught Tech Research Cost: 4000
Maintence fee for Dread fleet over 100: 1000BC per turn
Having your enemy's hopes crushed by ONE ship versus 99 "mystic" ships: Priceless

That's a little insane. I've had the same event in my current game a couple of times, too. And I suppose it might account for the stupid suicide attacks the torians performed. I just thought that they got a few ships, not 99, but as I wasn't anywhere near them I didn't see them arrive. Now that you've mentioned it, it would explain a lot! :)

I've seen the 99 pre-cursor corvettes, also. I wondered what they would do with them, so I focused on them at the end of my turn and started watching them dash the corvettes to pieces against the dreadnaughts of whichever race they were fighting--they even managed to destroy one already wounded dreadnaught.

The next time the event occured, I wandered away from the PC while the AI deployed their corvettes.

I was excited when I finally received the pre-cursor find in my last game; I only found 2, though, not 99 >:(

Obviously, they find so many because of the general tech level at that point in the game. I've found that closer to the beginning of a game far fewer corvettes are found. I think the best fix for this would be to somehow prohibit this event after a certain general tech level is reached.

It is just an "Event". Could be bad or just something that happens. Part of the game, accept it like that ;)

ARe there maintenance on those things? haha imagine if you got that event early game. wooooo you'd be screwed if they required maintenance

"Cool to meet you here also".

You guys know each other? Why don't you invite him to join the European Empire? ;) Doesn't matter where you live, is it? :CONGRAT:

That's what I'm saying. You DON"T get that many if this event happens early in the game.

Freya - I understand and agree with you, in theory. But sitting and looking at my computer screen while corvette after corvette uselessly suicides against a single ship doesn't fit my definition of fun. If they all attacked simutaneously then I would have absolutely no problem at all. My problem isn't the event per se, but rather the lost time involved. I don't always have alot of free time to play GalCiv. When I do get to play, I want to PLAY, not spend that time watching my screen. Going and doing something else defeats the purpose of loading up the game in the first place.

I hope that didn't sound angry or anything like that. I guess I'm just a bit blunt and to the point. :)

Oops! The first part of my last post (#8) was in response to purefx (#5). (Sigh) If only we had an edit feature...

When it happened to me I first thought I lost the game, but then it turned out the Drengin were at war with another empire as well, and I saw the same thing as you mention. But not completely. The Drengin had something like 54 ships left. Way too strong for me, at that stage. But, it seems, the Drengin had the same idea as I, they wanted a peace treaty with me, right after this event. We both needed it, the Drengin to rebuild their fleet and me to finally win the game culturaly

Well, anything that gets the Dregin off the warpath, even temporarily(sp?), must be good to some degree. Is it just me, or are the Dregin the most warlike? You'd think from the race descriptions that it would be the Vor. After all, they hate all life! (Which is even wierder, as they almost invariably become allied with me at some point!) LOL

Ha- in this game I stopped the Dregin from even getting off their rocks. I killed their Survey ship right away with mine (got a weapons uprgade rigth away in the first coupld of anomolies.) We started two sectors apart, so they had to be delt with promptly. I kept around as my lap dog but killed off anything they put into the "air." I think they even asked for mercy at some point... I shot them the finger.

Depends on how you set the races, pure evil -->> pure good. Drengin are set standard to pure evil. But of course, like almost everything in this fantastic game, you can customize it to your own needs :D

LOL

I've done that on occasion. Costing the AI their survey ship early in the game can really set them back! I've had it backfire, as well. I get a bad "roll" and the computer get a great one, costing me MY survey ship! :sniff!:

Good point, Freya. I usually leave the AI races on their default setting.

I'm starting to feel like I'm dominating this thread so I'm going to just lurk for awhile! ;)

Yep, specially to get to learn. But then again, try to play it different. For instance, all races Pure Good. Amazing what happens. And then set (some of) them to pure evil. WOW, they kicked my a.. like hell ;) And then set the AI to higher level, and so on. The 5 X, indeed, Xperience :D

So much for lurking! I guess I have no willpower! :(

Freya - That sounds interesting...I'll give it a try. :)
